No, white would be worse.

The canvas(?)/wallhanging is fantastic. Use the colors in it to get throw pillows and a lap blanket for your couch. The room could also use some patterned rugs versus the ones you have.

Can you post a photo of the rest of the room with your back to the canvas?

I like your paint color. If you improve lighting in this space and add some more layers and textures, I believe you will visually warm up this space dramatically. It's quite pretty.

It does appear to me that your dining chandelier is a tad too small for the space and is hung a bit too high.

I think you could add a lot of interest with a larger and more impressive chandelier. I would go with something more modern, too. Also, agree that you need a variety of lighting sources, but not a whole lot of cans, imho. It will be a spectacular room once you change a few things!

I agree a much nicer chandeleir that actually lights the table instead of the ceiling that is to high to get any light.

More cans won't help much. Table and floor lamps, as well as uplights under some plants in the dark corners will change the ambiance. Brighter, bigger rugs for living and dining areas for sure.

As some color experts said you can not lighten the dark room with white color, because even a white color appears gray in a dark room. You have a dark floor and dark dining furniture. You can get a light carpet and light dining chairs (or color them) for your dining table. You can change your table lamp shades to white or beige. I agree with others you can get a nice chandelier or you can hire a interior/lighting designer to calculate the right amount of light in your space.

You need a white ceiling & area rugs that reflect light. Burgundy doesn't help your efforts. You could paint the walls to match your loveseat fabric.

By selecting dark drapery panels, it will make the wall look that much lighter and focus attention on the scene beyond the windows.
