Do you have any room for a pantry style area? I love that the most in my laundry room. My cabinets are standard height and all across my laundry be sure to get tall cabinets for storage. Mine are filled with odds and ends as they are short. Online you can fund a pull out rod to hang your finished clothing on, I also dumped all hangers except for the slim flocked kind ... Best idea ever.

I'm adding cabinets to my laundry room right now. I had the same problem...no storage. I'm adding a countertop to my washer and dryer and garage style doors from the top of the washer and dryer to the ceiling. They are 18" deep. I can store laundry supplies where they are needed and still have folding room on top. The cabinets are ordered but not installed yet. I attached a pic of the design. To the left of the machines are open shelving for laundry baskets and a base cabinet for a small utility sink.
