Hi, I think a proper furniture arrangement is priority here and is a must before you can focus on anything else. I would post the dimensions of the room and maybe one of the Pros will pop in and help. The most important thing is pulling the couches off the wall and creating a more cohesive, organized conversation area. This is where your future rug will go. Also, take the lamp off the TV console and place it on the other end table.

There might be a better layout for the room, but it's hard to tell without seeing the complete area. At the least move the end table and lamp to the other side of the loveseat. Drapes could have been mounted a foot above the trim. I hate to suggest this, but if all that seating has to remain in the room, then the TV would have been better mounted over the fireplace..............but without the mantle so the height could have been more reasonable.

You do need a area rug that is lighter for the room. Select and indoor outdoor area rug that can withstand kids and dogs. There are tons of selections out there.

Beverly, we were just talking about moving the tv over the fireplace last night. Are mantles easily removed? I like the idea of moving the drapes up. I was hoping to get a comfy rug but that might not be an option. The room is a really weird shape. I am not home right now but here are some pictures from when we bought it that might give a better idea.

A carpenter with some skills can take your mantel and alter it so that it will still fit over your firplace. It will allow the TV to be placed at a more reasonable height. I will still mount the TV on an adjustable bracket to allow yourself some angle options.

If you want to keep the drapes, which might be a bit washed out on your white walls, then there is no sense in raising them. If you want to change to a more pronounced color or pattern, then mount them a bit higher. It will be better for your tall height room.

Not sure the dimensions will work, but this layout might be the best for your room

Based on the listing photos, I'd consider moving the loveseat to the other side so that the sofa and loveseat are in L-formation. The recliner could go in front of the windows. A sofa table might work between sofa and dining room as well. Might be worth a try.

I have a shag rug and i love it. It brightens the room and makes it so cozy. Mine is the inexpensive variety at wayfair or overstock. Get the largest size that will fit - bigger is better.

It is a very forgiving rug with dogs. Stains blot right up with a little water ( i knocked a cup of black coffee on it recently). It comes in smaller patterns but i find them a little busy.

Ok I went rogue and went with this rug. Now I need different curtains and throw pillows. Any suggestions? Also should i get rid of one of the end tables?

Just a couple things. Nice rug brings in color. Look for curtains, pillows, throws and accessories to match. The front legs of the furniture should be ON the rug. Center the love seat with the windows to give more room next to the fireplace. I like your coffee and end tables. I wouldn't change them. but move the end tables to the opposite sides of the couches away from the fireplace it's just too crammed with them there.

Sorry, but your rug is too small. It really needs to be large enough to hold the front feet of all the seating, especially in this room where the seating pieces are disconnected from each other.

Please try Manon's arrangement: Sofa facing windows, loveseat facing TV, recliner in front of windows. Then turn the rug the other direction and see if it's big enough then.

I don't know what it is about these puffy brown leather sofa sets, but people buy them and then can't seem to break their addiction to brown. Your new rug is a good start--a perfect color--if you can make it fit.
