basement bedroom blahs

Hey Houzz, writing in hopes of getting some help for my basement master bedroom. We had our second baby this week and I’ve been craving more coziness and relaxation in this space. I tried putting in a new ceiling light but the ceilings are so low we almost bonked our heads on it getting up. I was debating a run of curtains along the wall behind the bed, but the soffit prevents them from running all the way across, so that’s out. Maybe I just need some fun new bedding to scratch the cozy itch? (Sorry, “cozy itch” sounds like a medical problem.) critiques welcome but please go easy on my postpartum hormones ;)

Congrats on your newest bundle! :)

Your bedroom looks pretty cozy already. Love the art. How about a new blanket or pillows? New shades for your lights? It can be an easy DIY for some people. If you like flowers, perhaps you'd like to treat yourself to a small bouquet?

ETA: Just thought of the lighting: is it on dimmers?

I would get bedding the colors from the picture and add blue drapes across the window wall to the soffit. Put the picture on the wall by the bassinet. If you are up to it, paint the ceiling and alcove wall a shade of blue lighter than the drapes.

Simple changes for your room. Happy for your newest addition. Add a lighter duvet or comforter with nice simple look. Add some different lumbar pillows. Some that have some texture and lighter colors. That will let the art shine. Very sweet picture. You are doing great and hope baby makes you smile every time you gaze upon the sweetie pie!

Ceiling lights don't do anyone any favors in the bedroom and living room. Just as long as you have a lamp at chest height in each corner, you're fine. Good for you for using wall sconces!

Congratulations on the new baby! Me,I would change the shades.

The brown on the bedspread is making it seem dreary. You need some whites and soft colors for accents. I like dusty rose and gray, with a fluffy white comforter. Congrats on the sweet bundle of joy!

    Cora is adorable!

Definitely curtains on that window, you will sleep better.

I like color and would love a colorful bedspread or throw.

A faux sheepskin rug next the the bed would be cozy!

If it were me, I would paint the walls a light terracotta color and add some of those cozy ivory bedding items other posters suggested.

Without a head board or side tables the room seems to lacking contrast. Something as simple as a medium blue throw at the end of the bed that coordinates with your pillows would do wonders.

I think a headboard would make a huge difference, something low & upholstered. you can get them fairly inexpensive on Wayfair (although I can't speak to the quality). New bedding in your favorite color w/ shams, a new rug -- sounds cozy to me!

And baby cora has THE best smile!!

Thank you everyone! I added a runner and changed out the blanket/pillows. Unfortunately we don’t have room for a side table with the bassinet there for at least this year, but DH has one on his side. I’d thought about an upholstered headboard, would it look strange covering the window a little?

Even just a little sheer on expansion rod at that window would be nice. Bed looks really pretty. A faux fur (on sale at Home Goods) for a bit more depth and texture. But looks very inviting and soothing. Just what new parents need! You are amazing!

Think about floating bedside shelves at mattress level when you can do it.

Floating shelves is another great idea!! We downsized from a 4000 sq ft home to this one (2000 sq ft) but went from 1/8 acre to 2 outside so I could pursue my flower farm dream. Still getting used to the *much* smaller interior spaces so those space saving ideas like floating shelves much appreciated!! More projects for DH...

Beverly I LOVE the blush and fur!! Looks so cozy! I wonder if my hubs would be on board with it. Not that he has much say, but he is the project doer so I like to keep him happy. ;) updated with floating side tables. Should plant in window stay?

Those bedside lamps just overwhelm that room. Too big. Too black.

I'm a big proponent of wall-mounted lamps by the bed (keeps small tables clear for other stuff). But those are way out of scale.

I like the smaller plant better
