It already looks “warm “ to me. I’m not crazy about a lot of “stuff “ on countertops. I would think about a new window treatment ( a printed Roman shade if you want more color, but I’d do a neutral ) & for the countertop maybe another red item on the other side ( perhaps a live plant in a colored pot ) , could be placed on the island too. Or, a more colorful rug if you’re into that . .. I kind of like the one you have.

It looks like the island is already painted a different color. Do you like it? A lighter, bright color could really shake up things! Search colored islands on house.

I agree with the others. You already have a lovely kitchen! I too don't like a lot of stuff on the counters so I would only leave the jars and put the cookbooks in a cabinet. You can also get a pretty plate and put in on a plate stand and put it in one of the corners. Put a small fruit bowl or plant on the island (I usually keep my island clear but I will occasionally put a vase of fresh flowers there). And definitely a soft window treatment.

your kitchen is lovely. some suggestions: move the cookbooks either out of site or into the glass cupboard laying flat to show a pop of red. Insert red accent glass wear, pottery etc into glass cabinets. Replace towel on range with red one. Replace curtain- use your kitchen colors. Mixed fruit bowl on island with red apples. Remove clock left of the range & replace with potted plant as suggested.

Beautiful kitchen. Add some fresh flowers. Replace navy kitchen towels with red or red patterned towels. It looks like you are using a short sheer curtain for privacy. To add color, just add a short (4-6 inches) patterned fabric valence on a tension rod just below your crown molding.

"Boring" meaning a classically lovely space? Really, who put that idea into your head that your kitchen was "boring?" It is nothing of the sort. It's very pretty, and I wish my kitchen was as nice as yours. :)

I think your kitchen is really pretty! The only suggestions I have are to change out the outlet covers to a lighter color and put a bowl of apples on the island! Good luck!

I would add more natural elements in the decor and staging. Wooden bowls filled with fruit, small house plants, and maybe a bamboo mat or something instead of the rug. You have stone countertops and an understated backsplash, so it's the perfect setup for bringing the natural look into the interior areas. Nature always warms it up.

Add a pretty fabric shade and consider painting the back of the glass cabinet a fun color.

Did anyone suggest lighting yet? It looks a little dim - would you consider replacing the ceiling fan with a light over the island? Perhaps add a light above the sink as well?

What about swapping red canisters out and displaying one or two from a vintage set? You could use the others in some other way...pencil cup? plant pot on the island? A nice basket for produce is both pretty and functional and adds a layer of decor and “done-ness”. Check out the beautiful baskets from http://www.tenbythree.org...also sold at Whole Foods!

Like cpartist recommended, a nice colorful window treatment. You may also want to display some colorful dishware in your glass fronted cabinets. You may also consider lighting the cabinet interiors.

Check out ruggable.com for a washable runner. I'd go for red and they do have some. They're $137 and you can throw them in the washer. Replace your coffee maker with a red one. Eliminate the digital clock if you can tell time on your microwave or stove. How about removing the fan and wiring for something red to hang above the island?

Your kitchen is lovely. All you need is a bowl of fruit and fresh flowers.

Put the cookbooks in a cabinet, switch the positions of the canisters and coffee machine and add fruit and flowers. Add some more touches of red using towels, tray to hold S/P and oils, etc... Spread the color throughout, it’ll change daily with use.
