I am guessing that the white-door-with-sidelights photo is your current console arrangement. You may be able to use a slightly larger mirror if desired, but the light shining in is mainly controlled by the direction the front door is facing, and that can’t be changed. The mirror is facing the stairway, so it only reflects light which is bounced by the light walls.

Hi KLaurence: Thank you for your input. My husband will thank you for too for having me keep the current table! You think the mirror should be vertical, ok. The console table is approx. 58" wide, 16" deep, and 33" high. You think the width of mirror should be about 40"? Again thankyou

Hi felizlady: Thank you for your input. Splits are inherently dark, but I worked hard to augment light whenever possible with my new front door and sidelights, sliders in my adjacent family room and a clear, not opaque foyer light fixture. If you think increasing the mirror size will not change my lighting, then maybe I should just choose a veritical mirror that KLaurence has suggested.

Do either of you like the wide, large scrolled metal mirrors I've photo shopped in? I really like the mix of metal and wood in my inspiration photo. Grateful for your input.

Just out of curiosity how about hanging the mirror you have vertical & a little lower just to give you an idea of scale. If it works you could pa the frame in a silvery / pewter looking acrylic paint, very easy to do. I think the frames pictured are a little too large but hard to tell. You could place blue painters tape on the wall to give you an idea of proper scale.

I like the shabby, but if you stay with your original, loose the lamps. It's to busy. Lamps are too tall and then there are urns. Either urns or shorter lamps in a light color. Put urns below and loose that black piece.

I know this isn't what you asked, but you're getting lots of good suggestions from other people about the console and mirror. My thought is, if there isn't enough light, how about getting a larger light fixture with three globes instead of one?

Pipsqueaky: thank you. It wuold be easier and cheaper to edit the accessories than get new table. And KLaurence: I’ve already done the blue tape thing- still hard for me to decide on scale! And to Nancy R's point: the light fixture has 3 lights (globes) so don’t think that’s the solution.

I also think you can work with what you have as K Laurence just stated. My first thought when seeing your picture was to turn the mirror and lower it. Also the lamps are too tall. Get just one shorter lamp. Or get a new console table where you can hide shoes, gloves and hats close. and taller not wider mirror if you want. the dimensions of your current table is good. don't go wider you want a little wall showing on both sides so it doesn't look crammed into the space. I would only have a light on it if you actually use it. Do you use the ceiling fixture light when you come in the door? Or do you leave the light on the table on when you leave. Form and function should be your motivation. A tray, basket, box or bowl on the table top can be a drop off for keys and mail. If it looks good at the same time all the better. With the rustic look of your bench I wouldn't go to formal with the table And mirror.

Turn your mirror the other way! Length wise. I like the lamps. I would paint the table black. Remove all the stuff and just put one large lovely thing on that table!

I like your table too. I agree that a pair of shorter lamps with light shades and good wattage would look nice. What about a frameless or beveled mirror?

We think you can work with the table you have as well. We would remove everything you currently have on it, and we would look into getting a mirror that is vertical. Also we have included a few other ideas from our designs below:
