I agree with teamaltese. It’s nice to have comfortable seating near the kitchen and it sounds like a lovely view.

I agree with the comment above and was going to suggest something similar. So in addition to a comfy place to sit, look at the views (perhaps you'll have bird feeders visible from those lovely windows?) I'd put a bank of bookcases/display on the left wall. - That's assuming you don't already have a dedicated place for that type of thing.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone! We do have a spot for bookcases in our office/study area, so I probably wound't add another spot here.

I don't know how big a tea table is but I think you have room for a round table that would accommodate a light meal, a game of checkers, or a good puzzle....a word of caution: please do not choose everything in gray...choose colors you love...its' your house. Enjoy it.

Put in a rectangular table six feet narrower than the width of the room, place comfortable dining chairs all around it, and use the chairs that face the view. Guests can use the other chairs whenever that occurs.

I think I would split the difference. Petite comfy chairs with a small kitchen table. I really like doing puzzels/crafts/ and kneading bread in our turret and reading. A little bit of everything

Mark, I thought exactly the same thing looking at those photos - if I have a sitting area with a beautiful view, my chairs will face the window.

Add my vote to comfy chairs and bookshelves.

Maybe a console table on the blank wall, for a lamp, drawers for pen and pencil and the crossword (if you do puzzles), and charging the iPad.

Hmmm, all very good ideas. I'll keep an open mind when going shopping and maybe try to find a smaller breakfast table with some comfy chairs to go around it.

We had the same concerns on one of our plan ideas. Most meals were eaten at the large bar area and when we had people over, we ate in the formal dining room(again rarely used)We weren't really breakfast eaters and at the time had a counter height kitchen (tall table & chairs) We decided in the new breakfast nook we'd have two club chairs and a small table to enjoy our coffee(=breakfast for us) and enjoy the view. It's whatever works best for you and your family!

Comfortable loveseat against the wall so the dogs can lay on that and watch the squirrels and birds out the windows! A small bistro table and 2 comfortable chairs for the humans.

Does your dining room have an equally nice view? If not, I would do a round table with 4 comfy chairs. I would eat all my meals with the view!

Well that is a beautiful place. If it were me, I'd have a smallish round table with two chairs - not upholstered armchairs, but more kitchen-y type chairs. Because I'd do all kinds of things at the table like using my laptop, reading the mail, working a crossword puzzle in the newspaper, leafing through a cookbook, and - oh yeah - eating breakfast!

Well...your space really isn't about what sort of furniture can be placed in it...the furniture (and accessories) are the last thing to consider. So forget all the photos above. They aren't helpful.

The space is really about what you most want to do with it...how do you really prefer to use the space. Is the goal eating...viewing the outside...a relaxing change of pace...a place for informal entertaining...or what?

You need to define how you would best enjoy using this space in its current location, given all of the other adjacencies, with the related smells, sounds and traffic.

With that done, you can then figure out how best to furnish and accessorize the space.

Put first things first.

The best conversations are at a round table, if you can add comfortable chairs, all the better.

At rectangular tables you can lean back and conceal the expression on you face to some at the table after making a comment.

Some of us are visual learners, and we need to see an idea before we can define our own spaces. All these photos of interiors & exteriors are what brought me to Houzz when I wanted to create better living spaces in my own home. Wasn't sure what I wanted until I saw what I didn't want. :)

Yes, of course. But the problem with many of these posts from folks who throw a lot of photos of one thing or another into the conversation is that they don't generally analyze what and why they post the images. It's just a bunch of snapshots without any real reasoning of why some of the photos might be a good idea, or why they might be a bad idea.

The result? Like HGTV, some folks get really excited about the Chinese antique elephant tusk table and go no further in their thinking.

It's the difference between architecture and decoration.
