rooting a redbud

Hi, I'm in zone 4b-5 and have a redbud tree. I grew it from seed some 15 years ago or so. It's reasonably healthy, but doesn't seem to produce many seeds. Has anyone successfully propagated a redbud from cutting? I'd layer a stem in the soil, but the branches are too high up. I do have a layering packet for a branch, but haven't found it useful before.
