So one day recently I thought I heard someone say " Hey, why don't you go into the pineapple propagating business ? We'd like a little more company. "

So I did,..tip-toeing at first of course,..the following will detail how simple the whole process is,..even for me.

1. After twisting off the green, leafy top and plucking the bottom 3, 4 rows,..gather the tools, elements, etc. on a convenient work table :

2. Drilled a single 1/2 " max hole in bottom of my 16" tall plastic flower pot. The potting soil bag was labeled one cu ft, used 97 % of that bag, to give an idea of pot size :

3. Place the green, leafy center of the pilot pineapple in center of potting soil,..twisting & pressing down slightly to cover the bare spots just picked clean, to securely get it started :

4. Lastly water it :

Th, the,..th that's all folks ! At the end, ( 20 min max ), wifey gave me a big grin and a thumbs up,..so I must have done OK ! Hey if I can do it, anyone can ! LOL

Oh you're so fancy using real potting soil and all. I just grab some plain old sandy,

leafy soil and fill pot. I never, ever buy potting soil and I have the worst soil

in Fl. except for under the oak trees where the leaves break down and improve

the soil.

But my pineapples and other started plants do real well as long as I keep them watered and feed once in a while.

Hope you don't have too many hungry squirrels or mice since they usually

eat my ripe pineapples before I get to.

Joe, if that one works, you can go to Publix and ask them for the tops they cut off the pineapples when they chop/slice them to sell fresh. My neighbor got a lot of those once and started a little "pineapple plantation" in her yard. She fertilized them with horse manure and they were delish! Good luck!

mr1010 : I am hoping that the critters behave themselves,..mostly ! I tried this a long time ago when I lived in the Upper Keys. It ended in disaster rather quickly,...main culprits there were fruit rats and raccoons. Haven't seen either hereabouts, or even squirrels for that matter, but will be watching closely.

Deb : I will inquire at our local Publix if this venture works out OK, to see if they do the same. Mainly, right now, I want to know if I am up against a horde of devious pineapple lovers that sneak across my property line at night. If so, I might have to build a big fence...:o)
