Where do you live? Are the rest of your roses in the same area? My Ballerina and one New Dawn do very well in morning shade. Not total shade, mind you, but dappled light. Awakening also blooms well in this situation (not surprising!) As does Valentine, Pink Pet, double pink Knock out and Belinda's Dream.

Ah, I thought my profile showed my zone and location, but SF bay area. Thanks for those names! The builder put in double pink knock out, and apple blossom carpet rose all over the front of the houses. I'll put your suggestions on my list to take to the nursery!

I'm willing to bet Mr Lincoln would work. Another I know does well in your area is Gold Medal. Both of these bush's get pretty big. I don't know if Shelia's Perfume would do well in your location. There's a fairly new HT called Ring of Fire. Give it a try and see what happens.
