Another Lucky Day!

I had the best Luck yesterday, and today has been just as good. Some of you might think I'm not so lucky when I tell you that.... I found.... at Whole Foods............. Chicken Paws. I only bought a pound and now wish I had bought a couple more since we don't see those too often. The feet (Paws) are already in the soup pot with two chickens making, I hope, wonderful chicken stock.

Very interesting, Kate. I've never heard them referred to as "Paws" before. Also can't recall seeing them sold anywhere. Let us know if you think they improve the stock.

I saw them labeled paws somewhere recently. It may have been Whole Foods. Used to see them at Albertson's a lot. I've heard they make an awesome stock.

Whole Foods often has them. For the trendy hefty stocks.

Bone broth and collagen are trendy with the health food crowd, which may explain why they appear at Whole Foods.

It's funny how things come "back around" and become popular again. I've always made stock/broth with the feet of chickens and Mother says when she was small it was a big treat, the kids got to chew the little bits from the cooked chicken feet while the remainder of the bird went into dumplings or pot pie.

I've never seen any for sale anywhere, though, except the Asian groceries.

My Polish husband loved eating chicken feet. My German family never did. I think I'll look in my German grandmother's Little Black Book to see if there might be a soup recipe using chicken feet..... I'll bet there is.

At a Chinese restaurant I ordered Dim Sum. I told them I wanted a bit of everything on their cart, not knowing what was what. They put chicken feet on my plate! I had no idea they were so tasty. Amazingly good! A very satisfying meal. No way would my DH ever be so brave - he's a plain eater - food is sustenance not joy like us foodies.

Walmart and HEB both have chicken feet here. And they've been carrying them for a couple of years or more now, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe we're not as "back woods" as I thought! :^)

Common here so I always have a package in the freezer for stock . Duck paws and chicken feets. Great pup treats! Called both paws and feets here.

Snip the tips off just behind the nails to get the best flavor out of those toes. : )

They go in all my stocks except the veg broth.

My local Italian market has a bone/carcas/paw package for dirt cheap for broth and have had it for years.

Too funny. Several years ago, a friend saw them for sale and brought to another friends where we were gathering for the evening, cooked them. They'd made her feel nostalgic and brought back memories of her grandmother letting the children 'gnaw'. We all tried them, except DH who left the room. And he was raised on a farm, raised chickens which is why he said he would not eat a foot ;0)

WalMart here was carrying them and calling them paws...I always called them feet! But apparently we are too back woods here for them to sell and they seem to have stopped carrying them.

Yeah....this "bone broth" thing....have a younger friend who thinks it's a new found thing....I said you mean chicken stock? No....has to be made of bones!! LOL! I asked what she thought chicken broth was made of?

I do hope they are wahed well!!! And the chicken didn't have bumble foot either.

I made broth with just chicken feet a few times. My sister’s neighbor/chicken butcher had carefully saved and processed the feet for me from 30+ chickens. I didn’t like the flavor that much. But I love to add a few to a pot of backs and necks. To me they add more collagen than flavor.

I don’t like eating them much. I remember getting bbq dragon feet at Dim Sum.

Just a side note... my Dear Daughter dries "paws" for her dogs. I wasn't thrilled to see them go onto my dryer racks but she cleaned them up after that. She was thrilled. Me not so much. ;)

Ummmm.... yah.... I don’t think I would like that either. But then, it’s not all that much different than drying Jerky.
