Maybe deck paint in the color of the door or replace the threshold and sill with black aluminum. White would be unsightly in a week.

It should have been finished before install. The bottom is the most important part. Hit it with some oil and let it turn gray, anything else will flake off.

Agree with above. If you want something durable white in that spot, you need marine grade epoxy or polyurethane.

Use Black exterior penetrating stain with polyurethane. I too need to put a couple of coats of black stain on our entry threshold. My millworker had initially stained it brown before adding black pigment to the oil stain... duh!

We decided not to paint it white based on everyone's recommendations. I do have some left over exterior paint in black from a shutter project we worked on. Would that work? If so, would I need to sand and prime first?

Don't use exterior paint, paint will wear off with foot traffic.

Wood is a poor choice for that piece.

When installing a storm door like you have, I use a piece of decking, like Trex, instead of wood, then cover it with one of these for a finished look.

You can't "waterproof" the wood.

I hope this is under a portico roof.

No covering and exposed to the elements. I'm not going to have my contractor redo it so just need to figure out what's best for it now. It's suppose to snow this weekend in MD so trying to fix it quick. What about this stain? Thanks for all the advice.
