@300ft_anin I tried to use the shears as a lopper, so it was partly my fault. But that misuse exposed the fact that the metal on the shears was not the highest quality.

i've been using a pair of corona shears (lowes, 30.00?) for the last 4-5 yrs. cut some stuff that was probably bigger than recommended, usually do the cut as near the handle as possible. i've been thinking about replacing them this year, don't cut like they did when new.

In theory replaceable blades on a hedge shear is a brilliant idea. The question is does any credible brand actually produce such a product, and will the design stay stable enough over time so that when you need those replacement blades they are still available. The only unit I could find was the ARS HS-KR1000 and that is too expensive. The ones I reported on in this post were fantastic, but sure enough when I needed the replacement blades they are no longer available.

I just ordered the Corona SL 4364 lopper, and that is highly recommended. It is a real beast, and it has beefy arm extensions that are easy to extend and retract. The only downside is it is so large and heavy that it would take real strength to use for an extended period of time.

Is your hedge shear the Corona SL 4344?

@sofaspud I simply wanted to know if I had any options at all, and you are right I would have rejected custom due to cost.

no, just basic shears. i bought a pair of extendable handle types at a garage sale and ended up giving them to the goodwill, they would want to open when i didn't want them to. i do have a pair of loppers that the handles extend, not sure who made them, another g sale find. kinda handy.
