You have an issue with the floor height and IMO that needs to rectified first then you could see if the pieces you put under fridges to ease pullout will work with the W/D

Thank you for the comments. You are correct that they are front loaders with the little device that anchors them together. There is plenty of clearance above just not on the sides. I agree that some burly guys could help but I was hoping to find a solution that I could handle on my own. I saw some long slats that fit under on the sides with wheels that I'd love to buy but I'm worried about the units moving when the washer is running.

The dryer will be relatively light once you detach it. One person can move it out enough for two to lift it down after unhooking it. The washer could be then tilted back to put a thin piece of ply under the front. You can then slide it forward. The washer should be solidly on the floor in your situation. It also has to be level front to back and side to side. I don't think that'll be easy with rollers under.

I have an LG pair. The dryer is/was light enough that the kid brought it in off the truck on his back. The washer, though, is like 200lbs (concrete blocks inside). I have had them on appliance rollers since installing in 2005 so I can roll them out from the wall. They don't roll by themselves.
