I lived in Thailand as an expat for awhile. With the ingenuity and creativity of the Thais, my best guess would be it's hand crafted but I could be totally wrong. I like the design and utility also and may try to make one myself based on the pic. Looks simple in design with lots of straight lines that wouldn't be too hard to make and it just has one large upholstered cushion for the "bed". We have handmade teak furniture we brought back from there along with a handmade Rosewood dining room set with mother of pearl inlays....impressive carpentry and artistry in all the pieces.
