'Easter Cactus' Blooms. In Florida.

I got this one at Lowes last week, Thought the buds were all blasted, but it popped open all these blooms for me yesterday!! So enjoy. Now I have X-Mas cactus blooms, and maybe next year I will have these again, so I'll have Eater Cactus blooms, after the X-mas ones are done:) No name, but its a pretty hot pink.

I got my 'antique' Christmas cactus cuts from a wonderful lady on the cactus forum. 2 years back. MY original 200 yo one, that was in my family for almost the entire 200 years. Died about 15yrs ago. It about killed me. It was passed onto me when I was around 5yo in Conn. After my great-grandmother died, so it died on my watch! The Fla. heat, a mail man knocking it over when he delivered phone books,recall those?, and then a hurricane, finally killed the last of it. I massively huge plant. So I am TRYING to leave behind another plant to go down in the family, after I am gone. I doubt anyone will give a damn, but it will be my legacy.

These 'new' cuts are from a 150yo. plant I got the background on its life, and it traces it all the way back the the mid 1800's from Ohio. They wanted like $25-50 for tiny little 3in cuttings on E-Bay for them. I'd be dead before they bloomed.

This lady understood the importance of a family legacy. So her family story and its history are written down and go with the plant, tell about its new life here in Fla. with me, someone might take care of it after me.

Very very nice! I much prefer the symmetrical beauty of these over the rather distorted (IMO) blooms of CCs.

CC's?? Is that a chrismas cactus?? i have the VERY VERY old original one. Not the big hybrids of today Mine is over 150years old. So the blooms are the original fuchsia color, and smaller:)

Gorgeous! I got cuttings of easter cactus from a friend recently, and can't wait until next year so I can get blooms. My beautiful Christmas cactus died all but the two section leaves I was able to save, but they're putting out new growth, so I have hope. Was hoping to catch some on sale last year, but didn't get there in time.

Thanksgiving cactus - Schlumbergera truncata - zigzag leaves

Christmas cactus - Schlumbergera bridgesii - scalloped leaves

Easter cactus - Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri - blooms in the spring

The Easter cactus has a couple of different names, including Hatiora gaertneri and Schlumbergera gaertneri

I wish botanists would make up their minds! : )

It looks kinda like Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri Pink Ice (?) Whatever it is, its beautiful I love the spiky petals.

Can you PLEASE show us a picture of that CC, even if it's not in bloom. It sounds like such a special plant and wo that old. I have never seen a CC that old.

Rob I dont know what a 'CD' is. I assume an 'EC' is Easter Cactus, THIS is a Easter Cactus, That was the name om the pot. The Rhipsalidopsis name plant label. No variety name though.

'MeyerMike' MY current Christmas cactus is now young limbs from a 150yo huge cactus from a lady from this forum, HER plant is the 150yo plant.

I got big limbs from her, not just tiny little cuttings. MY 'family plant that WAS over 200yo, is long dead. I got large cuttings from a lady on this forum, not just tiny tip cuttings. Like from EBay for $50!

HER plant is HUGE. And it is over 200yo. Mine is now '2yo', and maybe next Christmas i will get blooms. I hope. But mine is now just a nice young 'old fashion' Christmas cactus.

My beautiful Easter Cactus died as fast as it bloomed! 2 sections just rotted of at the soil line and it was gone in 3 days:( Well I had all those blooms for about 3 weeks. Now...all gone:(
