if you want a crisp white with no undertones, then just use the white right out of the can. The Base-1. No tint. I use it for my ceiling and trim work. it's a nice, bright white.

just grab the can off the shelf and try it. you can always take it back and have it tinted (adjusting for any paint you've used) if you don't like it. (but it's just a regular bright white)

as for off-the-shelf, straight out of the can,,,it's on my baseboard, ceiling, crown and door trim

on the exterior, you prob aren't going to see a big diff from White, Pure White, Super White, or Base White straight from the can.

Ask the tint guy what color tints go into those colors. some will get a squirt of yellow, or green or even black.

(it's actually towards the yellow/green end of the spectrum)

most of the brighter whites fall towards that end.

if you want a cool white, pick something like Chantilly or Decorators white.

Pure bright whites get no tints! Like Base 1 right out of the can!

OC-151 is the same as PM2 and it is tinted. Not that the formula matters but it's yellow oxide, red and gray.

BenM will sell you straight base, no tint but there isn't a color name or number for it, in other words there isn't a chip of it in a fandeck or on the rack.

Which is different from Sherwin-Williams. Extra White SW 7006 is SW's untinted base.

If you're going to use untinted base, you're better off buying the top tiers because you could have issues with hide with untinted lower grades of paint.

Some painters swear you can have a shot of white colorant added to the base to help with hide.

I've seen it. Done it. Measured it.

The extra shot of white doesn't change the color of the untinted base. And I don't paint so if a painter says it helps, then I guess it does.

Does anyone have photos of cabinets painted BM impervo white right off the shelf? That’s what all my trim is painted and I’m trying to pick a white cabinet paint color and thinking I just use that one? Or go a couple shades warmer if it’ll work. Can’t find any photos? Thanks!

It's just BM base white. It should be the same in all of the cans. I'd use Advance on the cabinets. I used the base white for all of my trim.

If you must tint it, use Simply White, Cloud White or Oxford white. they are all really nice for cabs w/o being too yellow

Thanks Beth! I don’t have to tint it.. I was just worried it would be too stark for my kitchen. But I do like the idea of all my trim and cabinets matching. Such decisions!
