Quilting this weekend?

I hope Linda is doing ok. This is the second weekend we haven't heard from her.

I’m missing Linda, too! I hope she hasn’t had a relapse of the flu she had a while ago.

I'm working on Monterrey Medallion, a pattern by Atkinson Designs. I was already annoyed with it due to a bunch of stitch-and-flip construction (where you end up trimming off corners and wasting triangles of fabric). These triangles are large enough that I’ve started sewing them into pinwheels rather than tossing them. Now I just finished the first of 24 star blocks. The last instruction for the block is to trim it to 9-1/2” inches. I cut and sewed pretty accurately and the finished block is a little over 10-1/2”! I have to trim off over an inch! What a huge waste of fabric. And of course I cut a bunch of the pieces already. If I wasn’t so far along with it I’d trash the pattern and move on to something else. No more Atkinson Designs patterns for me!

Hi everyone! I'm here and well. I was busy with family and didn't get on the computer for the last couple of weekends. When DS and family are here I turn off the desktop computer because the boys sleep in the office.

I have been cutting blocks to work on at the next Featherweight Club meeting. A friend from the quilt guild started a club for Featherweight owners. We meet at the library and sew together. We had our first meeting in February with 7 quilters attending. We will meet again on March 19.

    Thanks for thinking of me!

Hi, Linda - glad to hear all is well with you! I guess the world is so connected these days we can't imagine someone being offline for a few days!

    And we worry!!

I have two Elizabeth Hartman quilts at the longarmer so the sewing room got an unusual clean out this week. Amazing how I seemed to just open the closet door and throw things inside without any rhyme or reason. I found a few things I'd been missing. My local thrift shop has a big load coming.

I have several bolts of Merimekko (sp?) fabric stashed in there. We have an outlet store for Crate and Barrel near us with that fabric dirt cheap. For some reason I decided to stock up and bought three bolts. So, to keep busy while waiting, I cut a hunk off the blue-green one about 7 feet long and trimmed it to about 34" wide and am going to just quilt the design of leaves in the fabric. Then I can hang it somewhere I need a spot of color. I'm not sure of the background design yet but it will come to me as I work. It's good for FMQ practice.

Otherwise, I'm fine, family's fine, Mom still going at 99. I am doing lots of flying back and forth these days so don't worry if you don't hear from me much.

Hi, Linda. Glad to hear all is well with you. I can't wait to see what your wallhanging looks like. Years ago someone gave me a grocery bag full of Marimekko scraps, none bigger than about 12" square. I didn't know what to do with them, but I loved the bright colors. I went on line and found a quilt made with Marimekko scraps, so I copied it. It's kind of wonky, because I couldn't fussy-cut anything, but it sure is colorful.

And then I made two Chinese Coin quilts with the tiny scraps for my great nieces. I sure got a lot of use out of that bag of scraps. I still have some left, but I think those are going to Goodwill.

Oh Lois, I really like your quilt! It looks so fresh and bright and clean with the white background. Well done!

I'm glad you doing just fine, Linda.

Lois, I love the big pieces of fabric because you can really appreciate and enjoy the print.

It seems like you hear about so many 90 year olds doing so well. I'm glad you still have her around to love on.
