I am not sure I understand your budget. Is it $300 for a set of sheets alone or the duvet cover as well? Libeco from Belgium makes wonderful linen products. I have their table cloths and tea towels, napkins and aprons, not sheets, though. Their quality is top notch. I would wait for sales and buy a few pieces at a time, rather spend my money on something that could disappoint.

Look at Target. They have 100% linen sheets for way less than $300. They often go on sale. They are thinner than some other brands, but ours have held up very well.

I purchased linen sheets last year after much research on the internet. Best reviews for quality, non-expensive sets were from a variety of sellers on etsy. There are a bunch all selling from eastern europe, and it's apparently a legit industry. I bought our set from Linen Magic, and we've been using it for more than a year and are very happy.

I'm a fan of Rough Linen - partly because I dislike fitted sheets. Rita is correct that Libeco is wonderful. I haven't tried their sheets. Jane at Attic Mag provided a good primer on linen sheets. Attic Mag - Making Sense of Linen Bed Sheets

My set of Pottery Barn linen sheets have held up very well for the last 2 years. They are in nearly constant use, washed weekly & put in the dryer over half the year (hung outside in nice weather). They have stayed white, too. The fitted sheet works with my deep mattress. I should get several more years out of them.

My favorite linen was a vintage set. Used for 10 years by us before they finally ripped beyond repair. I think they were over 75 years old (not used a ton before I got them). I still have the linen bc it’s so soft.... just can’t bear to let it go.

I just bought white linen sheets and pillow cases Eileen Fisher from Garnet Hill- i would not buy Linen on Amazon- or TJMaxx/ Homegoods- I don’t trust reviews or that im getting the correct product- u state u don’t want to pay ‘shipping’ well- if you r spending $$ on linen sheets- whats an xtra 20.00- ? I get linens on sale. It is reasonable priced- i feel for such high quality- i do have a Pottery Barn linen duvet cover which i do like also. - I don’t mind the look of linen- the feel far outweighs the slight wrinkle look- plus- I rather like ‘the look’. The feel is unreal- once u sleep on linen - u won’t go back to cotton!

I love linen sheets, and have had many over the years. The best were a set that I inherited—hand embroidered and absolutely perfect after many decades of use. I’ve bought linen from Yves Delorme, which is tough, rough, and wonderful. The more recent ones from them did shed a lot at the beginning, which made me wonder. But they wear as I would expect. To me, a good linen sheet is like a pair of jeans. Maybe stiff at first, but you grow to love them as they wear. I tried linen from Garnet Hill (not Eileen Fisher,) many years ago. They were ok. Rough but not tough, however. They developed holes, and they wore unevenly. The worst I ever got were from RH. They have no business calling it “Belgian Linen” as they are made in China, and they feel like it. I wish I’d returned them. They always felt cheap, and they became distorted and literally disintegrated quickly. I’m not kidding: they were practically see-thru.

That Attic Mag guide is good. Don’t get cheap ones or you’ll be disappointed. If you can afford one good Libeco sheet now, get one! Then save up for the next. Go see them in person, too. You should have them for a very, very long time. Amazon is not the place for heirlooms.

Yep, a good high quality linen sheet even if it means saving for it is the way to go. There's a lot of linen sheets that sound lovely with a lower price but you will be disappointed in the long run.

I highly recommend RH, really soft and very durable, washes well. I have Pottery Barn in guest rooms and the quality is not quit as good as RH.

I bought Linoto sheets a while back and they lasted about a year before they ripped. They had not been heavily used at all. I was not happy about this as you can imagine and will not buy from them again.

Interesting. I have two sets of Linoto sheets that I have been extremely happy with. So much so, that we bought a Linoto bedskirt and my husband keeps bugging me to get a duvet cover as well. We do wash them in cold water and hang them to dry rather than putting them through the dryer, so perhaps that makes a difference?

The Linoto colors are so beautiful.

If my sheets had ripped after a year I would have called and asked for them to be replaced.

I'm with @bustergordon. Keep drooling over the quilted coverlet. I don't wash in cold but my 2 y.o. set are aging beautifully. Linen is very durable so, in principle, any linen set should wear very well for many years.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I am just buying a regular sheet set at this time, fitted, top sheet, and pillow cases. I want a plain white bed, white pillows, upon which I wil, add some African mudcloth textile throws and pillows. Maybe it would be smarter in the long run to spend more for higher quality. Otherwise, I may as well just get linen/cotton blend sheets. They would probably be about the same quality of what I have, which are the Shabby Chic blue from Target, and close to the same quality of some of the midrange 100% linen sets.

Amazon is out. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Pottery Barn and RH and Garnet Hill, I like the price, and I hear great reviews....then I read reviews from people who say they are awful. I have a set of Brooklinen in my cart, they have a 10% sale right now, which puts them at around $225. That is WITH a top sheet. I can’t find anywhere on their website that says where they are made. I have found in my research, as some said here, to stay away from the treated/stonewashed ones..... I also just got back from the vet with a sick chihuahua at the starting price of $330. Ugh.

I could splurge for the higher end brands, was just hoping to find something comparable at a lower price!

Edited to add: i just visited the Libeco website...beautiful but I don’t want to go that high. A queen set of Linoto sheets are $339, with free shipping, and I like that they are American made. Magic Linen is under $300, and looks like another good option. Does anyone have Brookelinen linen bedding? In a YouTube review, they look very soft, right out of the packaging, which means they are probably treated.

I’ve had the Eileen Fisher sheets from GH for years - love them, and they have worn well. I’d recommend buying them during a sale - worth every penny.

I like Shabby Chic, I have a few sets of their sheets and a duvet cover in percale that are a few years old and heavily used. They have held up beautifully.

By the way I LOVE African mud cloth and have dreams of doing my grands bedroom in an African wildlife theme which the mud cloth would be wonderful for curtains and bedcovers...lol. I am of course dreaming.

Linen/cotton blend sheets are a European thing. Rare to find them here though I saw them recently at the Country Store I think. But unsure what those would be. I say wait for sales and see. Get on the Linoto mailing list. On holidays they have some discounts.

mama pinky, I just adore African mudcloth. Addicted! Etsy has some great shops, fabric throws and pillows, pricing starting in $20 range. I’ve bought both the lower and higher priced pieces, quality great on both. The indigo is my favorite, but I love the baule fabric too.

But one thing I'll share is that (to me,) the top sheet is the most important part of the linen sheet set. What I mean is, it's the weight of that sheet that makes the linen feel so good (to me.) I think when people say it "sleeps cool," they mean that the weight of that sheet itself is nice, because you don't need a blanket. It's hard to explain. If I were in your shoes, I'd get a flat sheet of good quality to try it out. Depends if you're really into matching sets. I'm not, really. But with the matched sets I do have, sometimes I'll add a linen flat as an extra top sheet. It just feels good! I could care less if the pillowcases were linen--they're a bit of a pain to be honest, especially the small shams. Anyway, I wish you luck on your search!

Well, China or not, they've been well-used, and the seams are nice and straight, and they are sturdy enough to survive our abuse. I bought Bella Notte linens the year before, and those didn't even last a year (fabric disintegrated).

Though China probably has a thousands of years history of weaving beautiful fabrics, I’d think that in today’s market - the rush to import goods as cheaply and quickly as possible - quality might be an issue. It’s hard today, and very pricey, to try to not buy things made in China. Almost impossible. I don’t like the way they treat animals there, personally.

That Eschelon set looks pretty nice and there is a real review by a poster here. Certainly worth $133. That's about what I paid for the Land's End linen sheets on sale. Pretty much best price for linen. I always prefer to buy US made but no way at that price. I do make exceptions.

In my opinion, Libeco and Sferra Classico are the best available linen sheets. A close second would be Rough Linen (more of a stonewash feel, but just as soft as Libeco and Sferra). PB and RH are too rough for my taste. I do find the cotton-linen stonewashed RH sheets to be exceptionally nice and soft, however, if not 100% linen.

I have tried RH, Linge Particulier (French brand), rough linen and Libeco linen sheets and duvet covers. I also use kitchen and bath towels from Fog linen Work. I can say for sure that Libeco is the most luxurious of all of them. It’s the perfect balance of crisp and smooth. It washes/dry well (just don’t over dry or it will weaken the fabric) and retains its shape wonderfully if you shake it out well after the wash. It does not pill and stains lift easily. Libeco clothing are made from similar fabric and they truly are the most comfortable warm weather attire.

I’m so disappointed with my fitted sheet from Libeco - only one year old and already thin and ripped at my feet. I do tend to move my feet at night but they aren’t rough and have never had this happen with cotton sheets :(

I recommend LinenStudioRG for buttery soft lighter weight linen (175gsm), or LinenAround for heavier weight linen 210-350gsm. SuperiorCustomLinens is also another really good choice. And btw none of these are made in China, or use Chinese woven fabrics.

@geslina2 please don’t believe in western media about how animals are treated in China. they tend to find the most remote rural areas minority population to represent the majority. it’ll literally be like using the Italian mafia from the godfather to tell people that this is how Americans treat people, by randomly killing them. Most people love animals as much as the American counterparts.

what are you talking about? the original post asks for suggestions on where to buy quality linen bedding. Are you suggesting that the companies I listed are “my companies?” I can only surmise that you haven’t heard of these companies because they are small family/individual companies off of Etsy. and they produce very high quality linen bedding. One is based in US using Belgian linen the other is based in Lithuania using Baltic linen, the third one is based in US using Baltic linen. I am in no way associated with them other than I bought many times from them and can vouch for their quality. there is absolutely no need to get so rude.

I actually do not like my Brooklinen Linen set for the price. They have shed lint like you wouldn't believe despite being dried every time, once weekly. For months they were washed in warm/warm, and dried on extra low as recommended. They are getting thin already in about 6 months. Not to mention that I wrote a review about it, and they never contacted me about the issue even with a direct email. Probably will not be purchasing from them again.
