Well, unless they're copper gutters. Then they'll just be whatever they eventually turn and look beautiful. I realize that probably isn't an option. I would use a downspout that blends with the brick.

And while you're at it, plant something fabulous against that bare brick wall in the back - an espaliered pear? climbing rose? - and either a shrub to hide the space under the deck or vines to beef up the slender supports. I vote for copper.

Gutters IMO are not usually a design element are best done to blend with the fascia and the brick and please remove those shutters and if you must keep them please not blue.

Purists always want to get rid of shutters that are non-functional. The house is designed to have them as a decorative element and will appear bare without them. Same for the door trim and probably divided window inserts. This is not a case of a mid-century modern house trying to be cute. Why insist on punishing reproduction capes for not being mid-century modern? It is authentic in its own way. And I have no problem with the blue!

The shutters appear blue because of the light reflection, but are black like the front door.

The windows are not inserts, rather individual panes- unless that’s what you mean by inserts.

Since the door and the shutters are black, you could go black. It is a toss-up.

If the front door and shutters (which definitely look blue) are black, then I'd vote for black. Have someone with photoshop skills turn them black for you to see if you like..... ;-)

If you have true divided windows (individual panes rather than wooden dividers overlaying the glass or in between layers of insulated glass) then you certainly deserve copper gutters:D

I was thinking the same thing! ": ) May I ask the age of your home? My only objection to the gutters is that they appear too small for the windows. ie. if you closed them they would cover them. Larger classic shutters that could be functional even if you never would use them would really improve the feel. This is a lovely home. Do the gutters need replacing or are you just wanting to do something?

1967. The previous owner had it kept up well until the last few years. I’m having the critter catchers exclude the house and while sealing up around the roof it just makes sense to get the new gutters while that whole process is happening. I just bought it in January so I’m taking a little project at a time. Yard drainage is next/ yuck! Back to gutters. I love the look of black/white on homes like this, but should I paint the fascia black too/ I’m really leaning towards black gutters!

I think it would be a mistake, look like heavy eyebrows.

Black gutters are as pretty as black lipstick.

They have the ogee front profile and are part of the TRIM.

The downspouts are a necessary evil and best painted in a color that camouflages them.

I'm sure you searched Houzz photos to see if you like black? I think they'd look great!

Well guys, I did it. I put on black gutters. The white paint on the roof if from a slop job from the past owners. Theres lots more to be done. Let me know what you think now? Thanks!

I totally love it! I've been thinking of switching to black gutters also - it's such a great update. White gutters and matching to fascia looks so outdated.

They seem to blend with the roof. Black and white is so classic with brick. Important thing is that YOU like it.

When a building at my 1954 brick house today mentioned black windows & black gutters, I said what??? But after looking at many photos of them, I actually like them. Am on here trying to find out if they still look good after a few years, because my white ones sure don't! I live in NW Georgia, in a pretty damp area with lakes around the subdivision, so maybe that's why they get so dirty! It shocked me to find out that I'm a fan of black gutters! Yes, they give a little contrast, but I think that little detail looks good!
