my very limited experience with reblooming shrubs.. lilac and W ... is that reblooming is variable ... the second flush being a small percent of the earlier bloom ...

dependent on age.. a mature plant does it better ... so dont expect much for a few years ...

and weather dependent .... during bad heat/drought summers.. it can also be reduced ...

all that said.. i dont know why you would reject a deer resistant plant.. just because rebloom is variable ...

to be clear.. i dont know about the specific plant you ask about ...

and not a single variety - established in the ground but from what I have seen from Pearl in a gallon pot here and one or more of the others in larger pots at garden centers the second wind may not be much more than that produced by older kinds not part of the series. In fact it has looked like one of these last on the market here re-blooms more than the Sonic selections.

Your mileage may vary, of course. Maybe just try them there and see what happens. And the softly colored Pearl might be lovely enough to plant even if it wasn't expected to flower on new growth during the summer.

These shrubs get rather large and l'd prefer to use one with interesting foliage if the rebloom isn't as advertised. Looking for someone with personal experience since they've been out for several years at least. Trying to avoid a big green nondescript blob most of the summer. I'm not a newbie gardener, been working on my borders for 20+ years. Only occasionally post but a big time lurker on this forum and I've picked up many ideas that are incorporated into my beds.

My wiegela - Wine and Roses - is not a non descript green blob in summer. It is a brown that passes for dead. Make sure the foliage on this series is more attractive!

I have been impressed with the rebloom here in the MSP area on the pearl and pink. Red is not reliably hardy here. It seems pretty reliable year to year. The tradeoff to me is they don't have the best growth habit compared to some others. The newest one, Pure Pink, I can't speak to but might be slightly smaller in size.

bfox254 -- I am in the same boat. Looking to replace some KO roses. Don't mind if it blooms once or sparsely thereafter but would like some interesting foliage if no blooms.

I'm wavering between the Sonic Bloom weigela and an Ivory Halo red twig dogwood. Ivory Halo has pretty variegated foliage, but I'd prefer color from a shrub with a long bloom period in this particular spot, even if it's intermittent. I've seen the Sonic Bloom red in person and agree it would be a good substitute for a knock out if rebloom is as advertised. Maybe I'll find a home for both!

Weigela shrubs don't look nice in the winter. Ivory Halo Dogwood is beautiful in winter with its red stems! Very pretty variegated leaves in summer. I love it! Equally nice is Creme de Mint Dogwood - very pretty variegated leaves in summer and bright yellow stems in winter.
