So from a design standpoint, it lacks visual interest. If no one is using it, I would question whether it should be more of a flex space than a living room. The rug is a little small so it would help to center it on the window and just have the front legs of any furniture on top. I suggest adding some lighter elements, textured items, some lighter wood and metal. And for something unexpected, I added the zebra print bench. Plants, accessories, art all help to create interest. So for example, instead of your typical framed art, I did the metal plate collage above the sofa. Now none of this may be your taste but just an example of how the room could be done.
