I just redid my living dining area and thought it looked lovely.. Now not so much, did I place furniture correctly.. Is the flow the way it should be?

    Which art work?
If you are looking at your front door from the dining room, there is a piece of artwork ( I think ) to the right of the front door. It would be behind the door when opening the door and walking in. I think it is to the left of your office door?
Okay looked back through pics, I think with the silver filigree mirror on the wall to the right of your office door, you do not need additional mirrors in the room. Take the two round mirrors out. Try the artwork where the two round mirrors are, nesting tables and lamp back where they were in original pic
  • 13 years ago
I think I know.. If course I pit the nesting tables in office and like them.. Oh boy what to do.. I'll put tall lamp back behind white chair then I don't know
  • 13 years ago
Okay with the three recent photos, I have an idea. No need for anything on the wall behind the door or on the wall to right of the silver filigree mirror. That mirror can stand on it's own and does not need the two canvas pieces competing with it.
Split the nesting tables up. Bring the shorter one back in beside the front door.
No need for the round mirrors.
Something I learned from HOUZZer's....you do not have to have something on every wall. Give your eye a break (blank space) between items.

Very true.. I tend to fill up spaces for some reason... I will change and post after dinner;)
Dinner first for sure. I still have to stop myself when hanging artwork, photos etc..
Oh try the silver lamp, one in corner at other end of couch, by door taller lamp in corner.
Bamamom I tried the smaller table with lamp way to small.. I either have to get a bigger lamp or just leave it for now with nothing.. I'm going to see if I can do without a lamp there.. I thought maybe a straight floor lamp but it may compete with the other one behind the creme chair..
Try the larger table. Looking back at office finished photo, I think the smaller nesting table with the flowers will be ok between the two red Parson chairs in the office.
Did you try the larger lamp or the smaller one? If there is nothing hanging above then the larger lamp will work there again. Try each nesting table and see which works better.

Yes trying it both ways... I almost have it just need to get a shade, the one I have is black.. So off to get a shade hopefully tomrrow before work.. will post... Thanks for all the help... You rock!!!
Your very welcome! Sometimes an extra pair of eyes (or several ha) helps so much.

AGH ACK!!!! Work I so wish that was not something that had to be done, but alas; if we get to "play" we must work. If you have some fabric around the house, you could just cover the black shade. My daughter in law recently did that with some old shades she had rather than buy new ones.
Late here so I'm off to bed so I can make it to work tomorrow. Good luck with the shade hunt. Look forward to seeing what you find/do.

That No was for a previous poster who has since removed his post.. Sorry all
  • 13 years ago
I saw that post and thought "really?"....glad he removed our HOUZZ team may have. Anyway, any luck?
Yes bamamom he was a creeper... I tried everything I had.. Nothing worked so I am leaving it right now.. My plan is to get another lamp and table for that space.. I tried breaking up the nesting tables but they really needed each other.. So it shall stay bare for now it is nice though having nothing there when you come in the door, only reason I am considering another lamp/table is strictly for light it seems a but dark in that corner at night.
Sorry about the glare, sun is strong today..

Dark in that corner.......we call that ambiance! Seriously, I do not mind ONE dark corner when you have other places with lights if someone needs it. I love it just like you have it now!
I agree with abbyjean....a dark corner or two, can be nice. I have one in my family room like that. I really do love your home...you have done an amazing job! Sit back, relax with a glass of wine and enjoy your home!
Awe thanks abbyjean.. I'm starting bath in a few... Gotta run my daughter Mcd's at her baby sitting job.. The things we do for these kids... Oh I never shared my 1/2 bath I'm not changing anything? I just love Audrey:)

Where is your half bath in your home, just so I can be totally snoopy! WHAT A ROOM! Audrey is at the top of my list, too. Our son and his wife have an awesome one of her in their loft area. They will be jealous of the one you have. AND yes, such mems of doing that same thing for our daughter! BUT enjoy her while she is still there. I cannot complain as Sara just lives 100 miles away with her own lil family now, but gosh, I still miss her!!!
Yes abbyjean my two sons are not here with me one is in the Air Force, one still back home in RI:)
So I'm back from my Mcd run..
The 1/2 bath is downstairs next to the office, across from the LR
  • 13 years ago
And abbyjean your not "snoppy" it's nice to have someone show any I interest in anything I do.. It's a nice change:) thank you for the interest
  • 13 years ago
Well, you were very clever in not showing that door in your other pictures! Sometimes you worry about flushing in such a living area, but this is such a nice set up for that privacy!!!

Please thank your son for serving in the Air Force! How proud you must be!!! Where is he stationed? Did a job 'make' you move to AZ?
He is in Security Forces in Wyoming right now, they guard nuclear missiles...he hopes to be off to a new base one day..
I left RI with no job here in Az, actually I still don't have one I just volunteer until I get one here... Nit easy to find:( I left RI for a change, my parents had both died in the same year, and I wS diagnosed with cancer 3 months after they died.. So I did my treatments and needed a change to my psyche... So Here we are:)

I have goosebumps reading all of that, my dear! I am just amazed at all you have done after having treatments even! Prognosis good???? And BOTH parents? I fell apart after losing my dad, so cannot imagine a mom, too. You mentioned a hubby using the office/computer.....right? I pray you have a support system there with you!!! You need a job in design!!!
Prognosis pretty good.. I had 35 rounds of radiation.. And multiple rounds of chemo.. Yes BOTH parent and for different things, it was a crazy time.. My mom was my best buddy, she died of cancer as well so it was a shock as she was only 62and as crazy hyper as me...it is a struggle but I keep smiling, I believe it's why I do the house so often it keeps me sane so I won't crack up...yes my husband tries to b supportive at least.. His job is stressful but at least he has one.. Now hopefully I get a call too:))
I don't mean to be a Debby downer sorry...
    last modified: 13 years ago
Honey, you are NOT a Debby downer......you are amazing! That is a lot of radiation and chemo, too! AND losing your best buddy at the same time. You needed a home to work on for your mental therapy, if anything. Your home takes on a whole new meaning for me right now!
Aww thanks abbyjean it's all I've got to hold on to right now, seems like all was taken away.. But I'm trying
  • 13 years ago
    last modified: 13 years ago
It was all taken away and it would be soooo easy to just give up, thinking how life is not fair, BUT you have turned it all around with a beautiful place to call home. You DESERVE a sanctuary like this......with Audrey!!!
Aww your a sweet heat abbyjean.. I'm still going at least that's something right!!!
I'm actually in the bathroom now but these cases are not working what youI think?

Hey......is that a new pic in the corner by the tub or did I miss that? I LOVE THAT right there! OK.......humor me for a minute. Go and get that piece of silver from the living room on the table between the two chairs and try that on the tray between the sinks.
OR try the branch by the pic in front of the window, although I do rather like it shining in front of the mirror. Move the vases to the sink area.
I had that pic in another room thought she might be good there.. Ok I'm running down to get it...
    Ok silver vase there
I think I like the gold branch thing too in front of mirror shining.. Until I can get vessel sinks and new mirror it separates the two sinks for me
  • 13 years ago
Can I see the branch with the silver, or would you rather not have gold and silver side by side?
    last modified: 13 years ago
Nope.......go back to the first way.......the branch and the two candles and the tub area as is. I think I like it! I really think that pic works there and I like the color the other candles give by the tub. Do you like them better there instead of at the other end?
So this is what I got..
I like mixing metals abbyjean but I didn't like those two together :(
  • 13 years ago
GREAT! Small thing, but I almost liked the towels and soap dispensers the way you had them first......not sure aobut the towels on each side of the tray. The soap just seemed to work there???????
Yes I go back and forth abbyjean.. I try one way then the other.. I'm certifiable I think lol... I took a pic of the vases up close.. It's hard to get the patterns and textures of them... Oh by the way after I took pic's the shower doors looked a bit dingy so I got in and cleaned them all... They really are going to come and get me:)))
GORGEOUS pieces!!! Certifiable or anal, not sure which!!!! BUT that is why we make good company!
    I may be both lol:))
