Front door needs pizzazz.

I need a few ideas to spruce up the boring entry way to our home. Give me a moment to explain the background of our project:

In 2008 we remodeled the inside of our Pacific Northwest home which included exterior doors and windows. And now (finally) we are planning/budgeting for our exterior renovation.

Our scope of work currently includes:
- Hardi-plank vertical siding with Hardi-shingles in the gables. The siding will be a olive green, the gables a chocolate brown. The front door will be painted a burnt red/orange.
- New composite deck that will wrap around the house to meet up with another deck on the opposite side of the house. It is likely that we will have a 1/2 gate just to the right of the front door.
- Updated Landscaping.

The one thing I believe is missing from this scope is the item that I am seeking design ideas on. Our front door gets beat up by the rain and has no cover (its the pacific northwest, rain is a fact of life). I would like to have some sort of awning or cover that would protect the door a bit, keep guests out of the rain but not obstruct the view. If possible, I want an entry way that says "The front door is here!" from the awkward vantage point. I want this to be stylish, fit in with whatever the heck the style of home is that we have here, and NOT be canvas material.

Thanks for your help.
