Without a doubt, induction.

Refrigerators seem to have reliability problems across the board. I can't recommend a manufacturer but I've heard more Samsung woes than any other brand. A friend of mine fought with the seller and Samsung for 6 months before they ended up getting a replacement. Luckily they had an old one in the garage to use in the interim.

Everyone has an old frid in the garage these days. Induction either Miele or Bosch. Same with the dw. Miele refrigerators are out of budget.

Induction over regular electric, but keep in mind you'll probably need new induction-compatible cookware.

No way I'd spend $3k on a Samsung refrigerator. Beware of any French door model with an in-door ice dispenser. Think about it...an ice maker in the refrigerator section...what could go wrong?

I went with induction. I also went with Samsung. (I did get a Bosch dishwasher because I love my current one.) I will let you know more when I finally move in!

Our Samsung refrigerator is still going strong, after 8 years. However, it still freezes things in the back, and all the plastic pieces that hold stuff in the door, and the deli drawer, have been broken for years.

Wow.. that is a nice fridge. I would have considered this model if it were available at the time (May 2016) when I needed a fridge. I would have preferred this fridge in a (non dispenser) model. I like the clean & simple lines. I ended up purchasing a 36" (built in) Gaggenau 2 compressor bottom freezer. I've been happy every since.

I love my induction.

I was surprised which of my pre-existing items were already reasonably induction ready. My largest skillet was not bought as such, but it takes a magnet and can adhere it. It DOES take longer to heat up (probably not enough iron) than my other sold-as-induction-ready implements. But faster than if on a traditional electric range.

I bought my induction as a range, not a cooktop - I do a lot of browning of foods then tossing them below into the oven, so I didn't see the need for me to pay extra for two separate cook sources. Your mileage will vary.

I love this range. Seems safer, as well, than a gas range/cooktop.

(My brands differ than your consideration, I was being a bit more lower end here, financially.)

I love my Miele induction range. I have a very old stainless pot set that works on it but they are not super heavy pans. Treated myself to a Demeyere stainless frying pan that works great, conducts heat well and I use a med heat setting. Also bought their non-stick pan which is wonderful for scrambled eggs. Also treated myself to a few Le Creuset pans that work great on the induction hobs. They are heavy, nice looking, sturdy, and conduct heat very well. Pricey but very impressed with them.

For those of you that cook on an induction cooktop - is it loud? I'm considering buying one, and I keep seeing comments that induction cooktops make loud buzzing sounds, and this is of great concern to me. Thanks for your help!

I have an LG induction range (not cooktop), and the only times I get a buzzing is if I mismatch the pot and lid.

Thank you - that is the brand that I am considering, but I have never used one, or seen one in use before. Induction cooking seems to get really good reviews, but every once in awhile, I hear about this awful buzzing sound that comes with it, and I can't tell if it's the induction range, or the cookware that is the problem, ....or if it is even an issue. Is the buzzing loud? Like on a scale of 1 - 10, how would you rate it?

It's slower than a buzz, more like a really fast tapping from a loose lid on the pot, even though it doesn't seem loose to me. 2/10. I love cooking on induction, and when I moved into this new place I had to wait a few months until I could replace the range with an induction range, and I hated cooking with a standard electric range. All that wasted heat! Even a spoon sitting next to the range would get hot, and all that wasted heat meant that everything took longer to heat up too. I think you'll love cooking on induction, but it might take a little while to get used to how quickly the element changes when you adjust it up or down. You're probably used to the amount of time your current stove takes, and this will be much faster.

Toronto Veterinarian, which model did you get and where did you order from? I'm local to you and followed your last reno on GW as I was doing a major reno. I just sold that house and am leaving behind my GE Cafe induction range. I'm just starting my search and hoping to hear from actual users instead of salespeople. TIA!

I love my Samsung induction cooktop! It's not loud at all. The only time it makes noise is when I have a the smallest cookware on the smallest spot. (just gotta find that sweetspoy and then no sound.)

@Darby Ballard...thank you! Have you had it for awhile? What did you use before you switched to induction? And when it does make noise...is it loud? or just kind of like a humming sound like my refrigerator?

I have used it for over two years. I had an electric ceramic/glass range before that and then electric range with coils before that.
It isn’t loud at all. And if it makes a noise, I have gotten used to it. LOL
I will never go back and use anything else.

If you are worried about the noise, highly recommend going to an appliance store that will turn it on and demo it for you.
Induction is the way to go!

I got the LG LSE4617ST, which is the same range I had before and enjoyed. I have heard good things about the Cafe, but I just couldn't see a reason for spending the extra $500-$1000, when I'd been happy with the LG before.

I ordered it from Tasco, but I cannot recommend them, unfortunately. I'd bought appliances there for my last 2 moves and my last reno, but this time their salesperson out-and-out lied to me on multiple occasions regarding the availability and delivery of my order. He would not take my calls, refused to return the messages I left, and on one occasion I had to drop by in person so he couldn't duck my phone calls again. I took quick delivery of the range and a small chest freezer that I ordered, and then cancelled the rest of my order because of his lies and their slow delivery times, even though I knew Costco had the same fridge and dishwasher in stock, for instance. After the couple of weeks to get them to process my refund (and him lying about it), I'm done. I got my fridge, washer, dryer, and dishwasher from Costco.

I know everyone is having delays in stock and shipping, but he took an order for the washer and dryer I wanted, for deliver a month away, even though (I found out later) that the items I wanted were not just out of stock, but their warehouse people didn't know why he'd placed the order because they had no idea when or if any more would be coming in.

Thanks! I've been pleased with all of my other LG appliances (washer, dryer, fridge) so will definitely check out that one. I had a bad experience with CAS during my last reno and refuse to buy anything from them. I'll probably stick with Costco and Lowes for this reno.
