Christmas cactus also blooming at Easter

I have several Christmas Cactus that I grew from individual segments I started 5 years ago from mature plant in a doctor's office that had a 'branch' fall off and I snagged it. Grew easily and had first blooms Christmas 2017. Full bloom Christmas 2018 and NOW its mid- March and they are starting full bloom again...huh? They are in kitchen bay west facing window and I do nothing other than water them. Whats up? I know there are three different varieties that bloom at different times so I am confused...HAPPY but confused.

Tbenton, can you post a picture of yours? Then we can probably tell you which one you have. Here is mine, a true Christmas cactus.

Certainly something to be happy about! I bought a large 30 year old plant in December, which was said to bloom every year around Christmas and again around Easter. It had been moved before I got it, and of course going to my place was another change of venue. This year it opened its first flower on Christmas Day, and it has been blooming continously since, roughly in segments moving clockwise. It has almost come full circle now. So yes, two bloom times, or even extended bloom times are possible. I am curious to see what my plant will do the coming winter.

You and I are very lucky to have these beautiful blooms so often. WOW.....30 yr old plant...impressive. Mine have grown much more in 5 yrs than I would have expected.

Are you sure it is true Christmas cactus? There are also Thanksgiving and Easter/Spring cactus, that may bloom few times a year. I have only TG, and it blooms usually couple of times a year.

Yes I know there are three kinds and since I started mine from branch that fell off one in doc's office I have no idea what kind it was and I have compared the leaves but my eyes got crossed...lol. It doesn't matter to me which kind it is really. All I know is that it blooms at Christmas and Easter. Who knows...next year it might bloom for Turkey Day too. I will be happy with whatever it graces me with.

If possible, pls. post good close-up of the flower. At first glance, it looks like true CHristmas cactus...

I agree with Rina. The colour looks good too for a true Christmas cactus, but a picture of an open flower would clinch it.

Yup, Christmas cactus. Congratulations! At least, many people would be happy to have a heritage plant that is hardly available commercially.

Thanks so much for the identification! I didn't know it was hard to find. Sooooo.....I guess I am doubly lucky that it is blooming again this time of the year after a full bloom at Christmas.

Should I put the two plants in bigger pots? Would that help them grow larger? I know not to do that while they are blooming
