Man, so pretty much no natives planted around San Francisco - all foreign exotics! :(

There should be some, esp pacific coast iris, but not sure they're in evidence yet.

One rarely finds many natives planted in metropolitan areas. Specially on the west coast as a lot of our natives are more woodland plants and not overly well-groomed or attractive enough to be included in very urban or downtown settings.

I doubt even many PC irises would be evident, as they are woodland dwellers as well.

Yes. And, the natives typically have a short season of flowering, followed with long periods of looking quite bedraggled. It is no wonder that California natives loose out to South Africans and Australians.

That Ceanothus looks nice for sure but they are very short-lived (10-15 years) and in that setting probably less. I wouldn't use it; I'd use an Acacia instead. As iochroma notes above, the Southern Hemisphere Mediterranean plants often are great choices here.
