Forgot to mention, when they start growing and I take cuttings to sell, they will end up costing me zilch, zero, nada. That's how I work things. My hobby must pay for itself, or I can't do it.

Irma, when I think of all the money I've spent on plants over the years, I could have bought a freaking house! Now I simply don't have the money, so my gardens have to be self-supporting. I've been working on these gardens for 4 years, and they are only just starting to pay for themselves, but I never did spend a lot on them, so that's a good thing.

My goal is to provide avid gardeners with plants they could not otherwise afford for as little as is reasonably possible. Also, to get rid of plants I tried to grow and ended up not liking, but know that someone may like.

People here on GW and IRL have been so generous to me, I have to pay some of it back by giving things away, of course. Anyone who buys things from me walks away with at least one free plant, sometimes more free plants than what they buy. I just love to see the happiness on their faces.

I got a yellow flowered canna for .50 cents. Its not flowering right now. I got some roses frm Lowes and Walmart kill racks last yr that are doing well.

The most recent plant I got at Lowes was an McColleys Philodendron. Apparently that one can climb so I have to make it a post. It wasnt on clearance though, unfortunately.

Sultry, markdown racks are the best places to get the cannas. I'm keeping my eye on the orange Tropicanas for when they go on markdown. I've wanted one forever, but $13 is a bit much for me to pay for a 1-gal. pot.

That is a lot. Sometimes just the root is sold in bags at walmart for $5 or so w the bagged bulbs. Just have to get them before they get too dried out or aquire fungus gnats.

Ha ha--we call that rack at Lowe's "The Dead Plant Rack." I've seen a few of my Master Gardener friends eyeing up the day's catch. One guy told me, "I like the challenge of taking them home and trying to save them."

violetsnapdragon, it seems they have the best finds on Wednesday here, and you can get some really healthy plants that are just being switched out for fresher ones. A couple of weeks ago, there were several racks of plants, and the worker was out there marking them down. There were so many, they were selling them at outrageously cheap prices.

I like to look for things like spent bulbs or perennials that I know will come back, like cannas or hardy hibiscus.

Sometimes when things are .50 or .25cents and in a 3 gal or 5 gal pot, it worth it to buy it just for the pot. Im always needing pots!

Sultry, does your Lowe's have the pot recycling program? I get all my pots there, and I've got way too many pots right now, but not the sizes I need.
