kitchen counter remodel

I am looking to upgrade my kitchen counters and island. I would like to enjoy them before I sell the house. I definitely would like to use quartz , as I have it in a vacation house. I also would replace the sink with a farmhouse. I am questioning the color to use and if I could do it in two stages; the counters then the island and if I might do two different surfaces or colors to highlight the island versus the counters. Thanks for any opinions.

I put quartz in my older kitchen and I am very happy with it:) If your cabinets are in sound shape and you are happy with your layout then new counters can refresh an older kitchen.

You do have a problem with an apron front sink in the corner space. With plumbing in the island, you could put one there, but it will not be the best location for clean up and prep with the dishwasher and range on the perimeter.

You could talk with a cabinet maker to see if something could be built to allow you to rearrange the corner a little to accommodate an apron front sink and still allow access to the dishwasher. If you put an apron front in the island, there are a few companies that make a "short apron" style that fits on a standard sink base cabinet. I have the Kohler Whitehaven in the short apron style - it is as big on the inside as the tall apron. Do not let the new sink make the area between your range and sink any smaller than it already is. If you could move your sink and dishwasher down to the right more - that would help. You will need to modify and or build some new cabinetry to match what you have. I actually did some of that in my kitchen and it can be done.

I think because your kitchen isn't very large that it will look too chopped up going with two different countertops. If you get a farmhouse sink, are you also going to replace the prep sink with a similar material (if you get a cast iron farm sink will you also get a cast iron prep sink)?

You don't have room in the corner for a farmhouse sink.

No to two different counters.

Yikes, I missed that the sink is in the corner. I don't think they make farmhouse sinks small enough for a corner. Are you planning on rearranging the entire space?

Don't waste 9K on quartz for that kitchen. Do a low budget basic granite and call it good. You can probably do that for 3K.

That kitchen with quartz on it is still a 1995 kitchen with granite on it. The next owner will want to do a gut and fix all of the layout and architectural issues. Not to mention the finishes. Putting quartz onto that is a money loser.

A quick, easy and cheap upgrade to your kitchen would be to de-clutter the perimeter counters and space over cabinets. You can hardly see what the counters are, so why spend money changing them?

Your cabinets look very nice, but all you see in the photos are the busy knick-knacks all around the room. I think de-cluttering will instantly make the kitchen feel more open and updated.
