Found another grey sofa, one that has curvy lines to it. It's curves would accentuate the curves in your dining table and chair backs.

You will get lots of suggestions for sofas, but I am wondering if it is not too late you should get a larger area rug for under your diningroom table. The one you have now is too small. Your chairs should be able to slide right back without falling off the carpet.

Ditto Mark and judyg. Rug should be 4 feet wider and longer than the table top for chair scoot and sit space. I'm all for a Chesterfield; maybe an updated one is where I'd add the plum. These lumbar pillows would be nice accents for the dining chairs and could make them more comfortable too.

That was what we were hoping for since our living area is also in the same space (open concept room). Here is an idea of what we were thinking since I already have the rug (minus the platinum window panels)

I’ll mention what I don’t like in your above choices and that is the media piece. It isn’t “glam” enough to work with your dining room furniture.

I love rooms that are tone and tone, but I would like to see something more dramatic under your dining room table.

Thanks so much for all of the wonderful feedback. My husband really wants a fireplace instead of the black media console for our living room. But we are trying to decide on a color. Will white work for the mantle with gray Carrera marble? Something similar to this is what we were thinking.

For the windows we have large triple sliding doors in our living room so we are having trouble figuring out what we could use to coordinate the two windows together. We had originally purchased silver/gray window panels from pottery barn but it darkens the room with them being on the back triple sliding doors to the pool. Mabey we just went the wrong direction with the color we chose....

I think the picture above that you are trying to achieve looks great! I am not sure if your window treatments, main concern, are meant to be functioning/ privacy oriented/ light controlling or aesthetically oriented mainly how to finish off or treat as an aesthetic element within the space?

You've got to get that rug !!!!!!!!

Your picture is white upholstered pieces. Depending on use, white or off white furniture is always elegant and upscale looking. Use furry looking white pillows as accent or the plum you like. You can always change color concept with accessories on white sofa, etc. in a couple years without replacing everything.

Love your room! Plum is a wonderful choice for accent colors too. I would go with a gray couch .. you could pop on the plum color in pillows, art, etc.

Love white sofas, had them and they showed everything and soon became a bummer. However, there are fabrics like "Crypton" that repel "according to them" practically everything. Liquid beads up on it.

Excellent! I'm loving all of this feedback for our room and I know my husband will be excited to hear the fireplace will work. This is the color combo we chose with the fireplace since we decided a lighter color may not work well with our 1 year old. The gray swatch is for our sofa, the wood tone is the flooring and the plum accent is for our chair and matching ottoman.

The second swatch is the furniture against our stonington gray walls.

Please don't do shutters. It will change the entire look. You have a beautiful room. I like the fireplace idea. Just do light panels in the living room like the dining room to make it a cohesive space. What is the orange swatch?

My original picture of the floor is a little misleading. Here is a better photo from the store. It is called bismark birch. To me the room feels a little too cold with our current cinnamon mahogany flooring.

Now that I see the flooring, it's not working well with all your other choices. It's a strong contrast (your photo above) to your neutrals. Its warming which I like but your spaces need some of the flooring color to filter into the room on other elements to tie them all together. You could add the yellow undertones and some warm beiges to the mix, with frames, art subjects, pillows, vases, candleholders, drapery or any accessories. Otherwise, I think the flooring will be the focal point of all the spaces and stand alone. I like the flooring, just needs same colorations in the spaces.
I think it would also change the sophisticated tone up to this point and you would be moving into a different directional feeling of the room. Just my opinion. I like the existing floors at this point.

P.S. As an entire picture, Your room feels rich and works. Lighter flooring changes everything. JMO

In keeping the existing floors, You can keep the sophistication and still add some warmth in small doses. (if that's what you're leaning toward). Accessories mentioned above. Table top items etc. Maybe primarily neutral drapes with a little touch of warmth.

On a second thought, we may try to get a refund for the lighter flooring tomorrow since we have not yet had it shipped to the store we purchased it from. Since our kitchen needs the tile removed we will need new flooring throughout our kitchen, family room and dining room. But now Im starting to think we should go darker. What do you think? If we wanted something a little different mabey an espresso?

I think espresso is not warm enough. It would definately match all your dark furniture. I love the warmth of the flooring you currently have. That's if I'm reading the color correctly. Like the contrast too.

I agree with LB Interiors. If you do a light floor then your space becomes casual and your furniture is very sophisticated. I love what you have started, I would stay in that direction. Is you kitchen, family separate from the dining? If so you could go more casual in that area.

really dark floors show a ton of dirt and with little kids I would steer clear. I would stay with floors until later. They look very good with your furniture.

I think I am driving my husband nuts with all of this flooring talk. After going back and forth with the flooring I am leaning towards dark now. Our dining room is elegant with black/ivory furniture. The family room is casual and the furniture style is a casual sectional (swatches above). I will post a picture of the kitchen when I get home. It leans towards casual too. But I like the elegant appeal of dark flooring the more I think about it.

If I go with dark flooring I will need more for the kitchen since it has an ivory tile. So first off any help with a dark color that works with the black furniture, gray furniture and whatever color our table will be in the kitchen would be much appreciated. We cannot get a match to the current hardwood color its no longer carried. I have attached a color we found that we thought could work.

And please someone help me with kitchen table ideas. :)

My opinion:,don't go too dark,too light, too red,etc. on your wood flooring, no matter what you are trying to achieve, unless you have an unlimited budget. Because style is always changing, to make you not like what you have. And, then you are living with it because you can't justify the expense of changing it. I am sorry, but there has to be a practical aspect to our choices. You love it in the moment, but unfortunately, this moment does not last forever.

I can only offer to go with your personal preferences on anything that is suggested here on houzz. We all have something that hits our tastes and that we tend to lean to or prefer when choosing the expensive materials that are available to us. They can be trendy and outdated some day. It also depends on our budget. Someone will always like the choices you make and some not so much. That's individuality.

Stone, granite, marble, brick, tile. Light, midtone, dark. Stainless appliances etc. Any of these choices combined together, will direct you to the 'feeling' you want for the room. That is design. Know yourself and what pulls at your heartstrings. For me, I lean toward warmth. Knowing and feeling comfortable with that, I make my decisions based on what I feel most comfortable and not what everyone else is doing. We are all advising what we like or how we perceive your direction toward your vision. The suggestions are made to achieve that end. Find what you know will feel comfortable by knowing yourself.

I would go with a taupe sofa rather than gray. Taupe would play off the plum really nicely....gray would look blah.

Gray couches for sure! Z Gallery has some beautiful couches that are somewhat reasonably priced in great shades of gray. Good luck!

LB and Mary, you know I have never really thought of it that way. I was trying to match my furniture and floors together. But now I see that really anything works so its a matter of my taste. Thanks for helping me with the process. I still like the dark better. But I am leaning towards a dark oak or burnished acacia.
