Cacti & Succulents

What is going on?bl

This is a Mamm that I picked up at HD at end of last year for the markdown price of $4.99. So really its not a big deal to me, the pot is a 6". The plant is 8-10 inches from the pot.

Now the problem, its been outside in a tent cooling down with 100 of my other cacti, and another Mamm from HD, which seems to have no problems. This plant seems to have caved in on one facet, the picture is more explicit.

It may be rotting. Have you tried pushing on the area in question?

I agree with Kara - is it wobbly at all, too?

It's quite solid on its roots, however, it's quite mushy where caved in. Off to the compost. Thanks for your help.

Conceivably you could carve out the rot, sanitize the wound and pack it with sulfur powder and it could recover. Since the roots are solid, that's a good indicator of it being able to be brought back from the edge.
