Are you going to keep the same wall color? The white in your counters looks cool, your wall color warm. A cool white backsplash might not work with the wall.

I would do a plain white-ish back splash that works with the wall and counters but use an interesting shape. Just so it looks a little different from every white subway tile out there.

No, no marble look anything for the backsplash!

I like your cabinets and I like your counters, but for my taste, they aren't the best complement to each other, one warm and one cool. I would do a warm off-white for the backsplash to pick up the off-white in the counter.

The counters are busy, so I would keep the backsplash simple.

We would opt for a white backsplash with the countertops you have currently. It will add a lighter feeling.

So refreshing to see beautiful wood cabinets in a new kitchen and your counters are gorgeous! I would do a simple off-white tile like Chispa suggests and let the counters be the star.

Beth I am leaning towards a white backplash because the kitchen is not very bright. I like that subway last pic with white subway where can I get that. I like subway but want glossy and not flat. How did you take my picturge and add the tile. I can see where the marble might clash. I dont know much about design so the warm and cold comment is probably right I have no idea. I am ready to paint the cabinets soon just to make the kitchen look better. And brighter.

You don't need to paint those cabinets. The matte, charcoal hex tiles BethH posted would be perfection. Wood tones punctuated with black/charcoal is as timeless as white and subway tile.

Count me in the “simple white tile” camp! Certainly nothing busy for the backsplash

I was looking at this Kitchen it also has the same type of tile tile on the backsplash with the small marble look and this got my countertops I feel that it looks nice but I’m not sure where I can find this size tile with that small marble look

if the kitchen isn't very bright, then add additional lighting, including under cabinet lighting. Putting in white tile because your kitchen is 'dark' is silly. Put in more lighting first. put in bulbs that give you good light. 4000K is what you should have in there. anything under 3500K and you get dimmer, yellowish light.

You are forgetting you have dark wood cabs. that picture, above, is misleading.

get some samples. black and white (or gray) and see how they look in your space. will white marble work? if you find one that is very muted without a lot of veining. Will a white subway work? yes. a black or charcoal would look better against the wood cabinets. Want to paint them white? then do that first. regardless of your choice, order samples. bring them home. increase your lighting in the room.

I have the same counters, though the style of my kitchen is quite different, and mine gets a lot of natural light. I chose simple gray glass subway tiles. I had been looking at crackle tiles, which I loved but DH did not.

Have you noticed your granite getting darker if you look at my pictures you can tell the difference from the day of installation to today they have darkened a lot
  • 7 years ago
Beth h I found this one what do you think
  • 7 years ago

mimi,,,is your granite sealed? drop a few beads of water on the surface and wait 5 mins. is the water still sitting there? if so, it's sealed. if it gets absorbed and the spot looks darker, it's not sealed properly. use a penetrating sealer. wipe it on, wait a few minutes and wipe/buff off any excess. do not let it dry on the top.

as for the tile, it's ok. but that type really reminds me of bathroom tile. I think you can do better. You don't like any of the examples I posted above?

Your right now that I think of it it does look like bathroom tile but I like the white with just a little veining to bring out the black in the granite if I only could find some type of stone like that I would install a slab at this point and the other thing is I don’t like the size of that tile it’s too big I think it needs to be a size down. I will keep searching.

To contrast and not compete with the swirly pattern on the counters the room requires a more geometric pattern for the tile. Subway is perfectly fine but if you want something more complex, see below how the patterns compete for attention. IMO it's just too much for your room.

This below will work for your room.

Still torn Some people are telling me to put a complete slab of some type of material I am very torn but need this to get done wall is getting damaged here are a few more I picked up

The one on the left or the one on the right should be fine, but I would avoid bright white in the middle

the whites look pink. don't know if it's the tile or your lighting, or reflection from the wood.

use a standard gray or a longer white one.

I like this 2x10 Newport from Ivy Hill. Home Depot (online) and Wayfair carry it.

Cloe 5x5 white tiles. (i think wayfair has these too. just search the name) I'd do them in a brick off set pattern

this is the shade of gray you want if you want gray tiles
