lol thanks. i only say that because the rest of them are looking so good so far leafing out shooting up new canes. these are making me nervous lol

Those roses look good and healthy to me. It is not a good idea to compare roses, just like people. It takes some roses longer to send up basal sprouts - the fact that they have leafed out means they are making energy for themselves. What, if anything, have you fed them?

I agree, the rose is fine as long as you see new growth, which both of them have. There are always stragglers in any group of roses. You might try removing some of the soil from around the base of the rose to make sure that wet soil isn't affecting the bushes.

I use the Alaskan fish fertilizer too! And oh my goodness! If it isn’t worth doing somebody tell me now cause that stuff is SO stinky!!! I just tell myself over and over again “It makes them happy, it makes them happy“

In the second picture, I'm seeing several large cankers eight to ten inches above the ground. That black material is dead rose, and it will probably gird those canes and you'll lose all the growth above it.

IF they were my roses' canes, I'd clean my secateurs and cut about two inches below the lowest black. That way, in prime growing time in spring, you will get more canes coming out.

I've found that replacement canes don't come that easily in the heat of summer, and zone 8 is hotter than me.
