Finishing Basement Closet/Office/Bedroom HELP!

last modified: 7 years ago

We have a concrete box in our basement so far that needs to be turned into a bedroom. It is a long rectangle, about 22'x10'. It has one egress window at one end of the bedroom on a short side. The door frame is located on the long side towards the opposite end of where the window is and is only 32" now, which means it will only be a 28" door once finished that goes out into a narrow hallway. I don't want to use a barn door...so I'm needing suggestions as to what else would work. A pocket door will not work because of the cement blocks. It will be an office space as well as an extra bedroom for guests.

We also have an unfinished walk in closet space about 15x12' right next to the bedroom we are wanting to finish that will act as a off season clothing closet and xmas decor closet etc. Need ideas please!!

Suggestions on a unique ceiling that will give the bedroom an illusion of more space. Lighting that will work for low ceilings.

I also need advice on the flooring. Ideally I would like carpet, because that's what our basement is. We are getting new carpet/padding for the entire basement once the bedroom is done. I want it to be plush yet easy to clean and durable since we have 2 small children...in a cream color that will camouflage stains if they might happen. I live in an area where there are extreme weather conditions, from -40 and blizzarding during the winter to 90 with humidity at 90% in the summer and everything else in between! Rain, etc.
