Do you remember what the grass type was? Good choices might be fescue, rye, or Kentucky bluegrass.

Is the area in full sun? Some shade?

What month did you put the seed down?

Did you fertilize it?

Did you water it after it initially came up? If so, how did you water?

It was a mix suggested by home depot. Never really paid attention to what types was in it. It rained a massive amount here last year. I don't think anyone watered.must have been may when I planted because I watched the bushes and tree and went and bought the seed when they started showing a lot of new green growth. I have never grass grow in green that did not show signs of regrowing the next year. I could understand if it had shown signs that it was having some problem with soil or something but there should be some sign it came in.

Cool season grasses have different cold tolerances. And none will do well in saturated soil. Could easily have germinated, grew some green, then died.
