Considering the dark exterior color, the entry is dark during the day, even with the skylight. At night, I would not approach the door, even with a porch light. I would definitely put a locked gate at the front entry.

It's not that dark. similar style homes w/that entryway/skylight are in my neighborhood. It's prob the photo that makes it appear dark.

no need for a locked gate. a motion sensor light, both near the door and out by the garage, would be fine. I have similar set-up like the op, and have a wrought iron fence/gate. sometimes I lock it, but it's a hassle if you have deliveries and such.

The picture was taken at dawn. Definitely is not that dark in person. There is a lot of light at night. There is two lights at the door, one light when you approach the walkway, a post light, 2 lights under the overhang in front house, and one light over the garage.

Going to go with the door Beth recommended. Either going to go with 3 or 4 to glass lites. Any recommendation on color? We painted our current door navy and didn’t like it as was too dark. We are thinking sage green or red. What color would you recommend? We have tan siding and red brick.

this raisin color would look nice. I like a reddish/violet color too.

and I still like the copper tones. with the sage or the red tones (actually, with any color you decide!) these will be a perfect match

(zinc planters. amazon) love this color w/the copper. In fact, see if you can get a color match from SW on that green shade.

I was also thinking of this light blue/green color. looks nice w/the brick and the tan

and if you really want to take it up a bit, tile your porch w/these verdigris penny tiles

if you did something w/the concrete entry, your door and walkway would look amazing.

if you don't want to tile, you could acid staid the concrete,

do a concrete porch stain/paint, or, porch paint in a background color w/a stencil in another color.

I like door #3. Have you ever considered having a louvered cover, so you can close it when it's raining and open it when it's sunny?

Thank you everyone. Love the suggestions. We actually had tile on the entrance but took it out because they kept coming out due to the harsh winter. The concrete is a multi brown color.

We are going to test out a few colors on the door this weekend.

The louvers are pretty cool. Don’t think they would work in that space because of the gutters.

Ordering Door and Windows Tomorrow!! We decided on Cardinal Red for the door. I forgot about the post light that I want to match the front lights. The post light is reducing my selection. The largest selection of lights that match are in black or bronze. I need suggestions on lights as I need to tell him the hinge color tomorrow.

I don't think your hinge color needs to match the lights. Mine sure won't. The handlesets also won't match the lights.

Okay the cardinal red pulse door is coming in a few weeks so I need to order the lights and door hardware. I do have a post light near front entry so I would like to get a matching set. What do you think of these?

You have diagonal lattice grids on your windows. Looks like this is a country ranch style home. I don't understand why anyone would recommend MCM doors for your entrance!!

I would not consider a dark color at the end of this walkway and I don't think the double doors are doing the space any favors.

Here are alternate door configurations

Okay, hardware ordering has not been easy. I now know more about locks than I wanted too...lol. When I ordered the door I had them do a standard 2 bore holes (tubular). All of the sets I picked are mortise locks and will not work with a 2 hole set up. So back to drawing board. Door is arriving this week!

I have included pic of what my doors will look like. My door will be a little wider.

Should I do bronze or black with my red doors? My initial gut is black but there is more choices in bronze.

I can get Emtek (takes up to 10 days to arrive) in black or bronze. There are 2 from Emtek that I like. One is a full plate style and the other is the lever style. On the lever style I do not like the screws on the front plate, however they would not be noticeable from the street. I can get both of these in bronze or black.

I can get the Baldwin Prestige in a few days, however I can only get this in bronze.

the ORB actually looks like a black from afar. I will tell you w/any amount of sun, they will fade.

I actually like all of your choices. they have a bit of modern look to them. the red door pic has what looks very similar to your first Emtek, so that should give you an idea.

I need help with front entry planters. Should I go symmetrical and do one large planter on each side? What color and shape do you recommend?

Walkway: Multicolor brown stamp concrete (river rock pattern).

New Lighting is rectangular and black (Samanda light shown below in prior post)

I was thinking of black, white, brown, or faux copper planters....but would love to hear your thoughts!

i think black, copper , or red would look great. also depends on the plantings.

this green plant w/the black or copper would look nice

with a red planter, I might pick something w/white and red foliage.

or even something like the Coleus varieties. your space is perfect for these since they don't like harsh sunlight.

wait until the doors are in to see if two fit (you don't want to sidestep around it to get in the door)

you might also look at some longer, taller planters for the walkway area.

boston ferns are a perfect choice for that spot too. Hang them along the entryway

So the windows and door have been installed. I still have the electrical to do and to get planters. I post another pic once the new light fixtures are up. Everyone loves the door and the light it provides in the entry way. This pic was taken about 1 hour before sunset.
