We have a lakefront part-time home and, although we do technically have a front porch with a front door on the street side, many in this lakeside community use the doors off their neighbor's lakeside decks as the "front doors." Coming in from our lakeside deck, we have a pair of french doors (one stationary and the other hinged) with casement windows that are the same height as the doors on either side of the pair of doors. With all that glass, we have plenty of open view, with the swinging french door serving as the entry door, and with doors and windows all same height, it all reads as one whole "door system."

Whether you keep the sliders or switch to hinged doors or not, I would definitely choose these doors in a bold exterior color (e.g. red or black or another color that coordinates with your home's body color) and paint the other door you have on that side of the house (it looks black now?) the same color as the body paint of the house, so those arriving aren't confused by that door.

I also have a question: Are you thinking of adding the awning because the sunshine admitted through these glass doors is too bright in the house? If so, you might want to consider solar shades, as they make a substantial difference. We have dark coffee colored solar shades on all our lakeside windows. They help substantially reduce the level of brightness, provide some level of privacy during daylight hours, and you can purchase them in different levels of openness to retain views (ours are dark coffee colored, and you can see right through them).

If you are adding the awning for shade on the deck, that is another matter. I would only have two concerns about that: (1) winds are sometimes quite gusty on oceanfront properties, so I'd want to make sure the awning could take that; and (2) a peaked roof would more readily communicate to those arriving that these are the "front doors" through which visitors are welcome to enter, so if you can't do that I'd want to make it clear in other ways, such as a double wide welcome mat, flower containers either side, and/or possibly even a painted path to front door over deck surface.
