color of interior front door?

Hoping someone with good photo editing skills can help me visualize this! Below is a photo of our front door, interior. The door will be stained to match our garage doors (mahogany). Originally planned on staining interior & exterior of front door... now I’m wondering if we should leave interior white.

Included photo of garage door.

No question that you should leave the interior white. The mahogany doesn't work with your interior floor finish.

Typical, an interior door is the same color as all the other woodwork, in your case, white. Leave it alone.

the door is already white. how were you going to stain it?

you could do a warm gray paint color, a bit darker than the walls.

the color on the closet door is SW Dovetail

much better to have a front door w/glass in it

if you want a wood interior, then do a door like this

the current one you have doesn't match the closet door. I think bringing in a door w/glass will keep it from looking like another closet door.

Also, what brand are those black windows? are they casement?

Dissenting opinion here but if the door is primed, I'm not sure how you could stain it at all at this point - maybe with multiple coats of a gel stain which is more opaque but unlikely it's going to look like stained wood at that point. But... assuming there is more to this story, this is your front door and IMO should be a statement inside the house as well as outside so I would want stain.

This is really crude but you get the idea. Probably not my first choice for a stain color - looks great for the garage but not so much with your floor. My next choice would be black like your window sashes. I do think the front door should be differentiated from others (especially the closet) by more than a door style change.

Beth H I was monkeying around with paint while you posted - great minds.

"much better to have a front door w/glass in it"

Why? Certainly not needed for light as it appears plenty of light comes in from the window a few feet away.

Not that you asked, but we Gel Stained a Fibreglass door and haven't been happy with how it is holding up. Granted it faces West in Texas and has no protection from the elements. I am going to be painting it this fall.

I vote for some color inside. Is it possible to paint the door a fun color that would be cohesive with inside and out?

Thank you guys so much for the great ideas and suggestions!! I’m leaning heavily towards leaving it white now - but will share some of the other color ideas with my husband and our builder as well.

We actually considered a door with glass- but then we spent time trying to figure out how to obscure the glass... which seemed silly to us, so we picked this style! I love the style and am happy with how the exterior will look - but see how the different style interior may look odd. I’m leaning towards leaving it white now, so that the difference in style doesn’t stick out so much. You guys are right too- we can always live with it white for a while and maybe have it painted black or another color later. The front door was ordered to be stained to get an exact match to the garage doors, so I trust our builder has that squared away. (Or will fix it if needed!)

Also - Our windows! They are Anderson 400 series casement. We love them!!

As I look at all the awesome pics you guys shared - I definitely see that the mahogany stain doesn’t compliment our interior fixtures. Now that the floor is in- that was actually what prompted me to question it!! If we pick a color- I like the various grays you all posted.

    Thanks again everyone!!!

Oh and I forgot to add - we will have matte black door handle. That gold one is a place holder while our nice one is keyed :)

Have you Googled "color of the month"?

Just kidding...just kidding. Don't ever do that!

Haha! Yes I will avoid googling for colors
