My regular closets are painted the same color as my walls but the built in stuff is white. I wouldn't want a dark clothes closet. Since my walls are a basic cream, it really wasn't much of a design decision.

I had my kitchen cabinets including the broom closets and reach in pantries done in teal blue which complements my backsplash. Some of it is painted but I had a matching teal blue laminate installed on shelves and on the interior of the sink cabinet because I wanted a surface that was more durable and easier to clean than paint. Actually the paint color was matched to the laminate I chose for the interiors.

I paint all my closets white on the interior and I use semi-gloss paint so that the walls don't mark up as much plus easier to clean. A walk-in closet I treat differently. It's an opportunity to take more of a design chance because you spend little time in there so you can go a little wild if you want. It should look take colour and style cues from the room it's attached to but maybe be a bit more dramatic.

We put white in all our walk-in bedroom closets and the pantry interior. White gives you a neutral backdrop to see your clothing better, regardless of how you paint your bedroom. Plus it looks fresh and clean. The pantry will be filled with lots of colors/items. For a walk in pantry you could use the wall color if it is light, but I would use white for a reach in pantry - it is more like the inside of a cabinet.

All our closets are white inside and so are the pantry cupboards.

same color as the trim throughout the house, an off white called Swiss Coffee that can be bought premixed. In addition to being nice and bright, it will be easy to do touchups or match any new shelving I might add. I am in the process of improving my closets.

Usually, the walls inside closets are painted the same color as the walls in the room in which the closet is located.

I am now very curious about what Virgil Carter Fine Art has painted on the inside of their closet.

White on inside of all closets. When you go to paint a room, you don't have to do closets.

Plus white is nice and bright in a closet that doesn't have a light in it.

Was going to say what Angel said....I always paint the inside of my closets white...then they don't have to be painted when you paint the whole room.

The same whole house color - Revere Pewter, with gloss white shelves, etc. Simple.

I saw a model home once that color-coordinated the two children's walk-in closets to the rooms. The orange, blue and green they used were too dark and made the clothing hard to distinguish.

We had our painter spray all the closets the same paint as the trim while he was spraying. Ours is a white. The exception is our master closet, which is walk-in and I painted the same color as our bedroom.

My pantry is green and bedroom closets are whatever color the bedrooms are painted. There is nothing painted white in my house except the ceilings in rooms in our daylight basement.

I hate when closets don't have lights in them. I buy those stick on lights that are battery powered.

2 houses had white and 2 houses had the house wall color. Not sure if I noticed problems with clothes color discernment; those with house color walls also had windows; white closets didn't have windows.

I think I'll paint our closets the same color as our recently painted trim: SW Alabaster just to keep things cohesive. We have builders grade white now and it's quite stark with the florescent lighting which I won't change.

I see now why virgil posted the comment. If you look quickly at the heading, one may read "panties" instead of "pantries". LOL

Paint mine white because closets (except maybe walkins) are so difficult to paint when you want to change room color.

I would think walk-in master bedroom closet would be the worst to paint.

First remove all the clothing, then remove the wire shelving - if you have it,

paint, then put shelving back up, then put clothing back up. What a PITA !

Someone had an interesting note about repainting rooms. Most people when they repaint their bedrooms don't want to be bothered to empty out their entire closet or to paint around the shelves so the inside will remain the old color. We have lived in a few houses where the closet interiors when we moved in were a different color than the room because they had never been repainted. If you are that type of person I would stick to a neutral in the closets. Also if your room colors are dark, definitely do a lighter (white or close to white color, as your closet light will go further at illuminating the closet contents the closer the closet interior is to white. My vote would be for white or the room color if it is fairly neutral and light.

Thank you all. For a few rooms (kids mostly) , I need to pick up some white paint! Most of the rest are neutral enough to do the closet as well.
