Hooks for coats/bags

We have a coat closet to the right of our entry, a few steps upon entering our apartment. There are hooks for bags/coats inside, but it is relatively full as we use it for storage as well (winter coats, spring jackets, everything). And my kids are often lazy and throw their hoodies/jackets on the small bench. I am thinking of putting up 2-3 hooks behind the front door (same side as closet- if door is open, you wouldn't see hooks), such that the kids could hang up hoodies that they are using again later in day, etc (or guests who are just coming over for short while).

I am considering Command hooks to avoid holes in the wall, but are they sturdy enough to hold jackets (spring jackets, not heavy winter coats)? Or should I get some pretty hooks that are real (e.g. from Anthropologie or any other suggestions)?

Hi,

I know these need holes in the wall, but these are great hooks from Ikea Ikea Folding hook

They sit flush and fold up to be almost completely unobtrusive.

I have these inside our back door and wish I had room for more.

Command has several larger hooks that could work. Can't hurt to try them before drilling holes.

My kids used heavy-duty Command hooks in their dorm rooms for their robes, jackets.

Yes, the Command hooks are strong enough. Make sure you pay attention to the weight limits, such as the 4 lbs. on Lil's example. I'm assuming the hooks will be seen when the front door is closed? If so, I'd probably want something a little different than Command's, even it it would involve holes in the wall. Seeing the space in question would help.

M V, those Ikea hooks are genius. How did I miss them?! Thanks for sharing.

gargigg, Wayfair has a few no drilling required hooks as well. Can't vouch for sturdiness.

This is the corner behind the front door.
If I drill holes or nails, I was thinking getting 4 - 1 initial each for the 4 of us. Too many? Or just stick with Command hooks (no pun intended!)- obviously much cheaper!

Command hooks are the best when you don’t want holes. Lots of different styles

What I like about Command hooks is that it's a great way to try out the placement.
Then if you like the functionality, you can always replace with a hook that's mounted to the wall with a wall anchor.

The wide Command hooks are annoying because the hook snaps off. So don't get those; get a different style of hook.
These are the ones that break off (I know from my kids hanging their coats on them)

Get any of the other designs of hook with that capacity (the bath one doesn't have to go in the bathroom, and it's very sturdily designed).
