If you want to keep the current bench, I would add a a large rectangular piece of art or a trio of small pieces, flanked by sconces or buffet lights on tall tables. Is the front door to the right or are you standing at the door? Please add a picture directly facing the bench.

Still paint the living room all green. But, when I went searching for a good idea for your entry I came across this photo which may work quite well. The entry ceiling is or feels low... a pale blue would work with your green room. Everything else in this photo can be copied for not much $$.

A long narrow console table would be the best start. No one will use that bench in a lonely hallway.

Agreed. The long console table, lamps and art are best here. I would only use the bench as a time-out spot. Hint -- I bought a black long console like the one in JudyG's inspiration picture on Craigslist. It was being sold as part of an office furniture batch.
