Removing the carpet from the stairs would be a big help! Try a simple floating shelf with art or mirror on that little wall. The art in the hallway is too high. Center it 5' above the floor and hang the pieces one frame's width apart. If they were more interesting subject matter, you could hang them vertically in place of that table and mirror but they look too dull and bland.

I think you could keep the mirror and do a floating shelf. It's the table that is off (along with the flowers). Get a bigger rug at front door so when visitors step in there is lots of room to stand on the rug.

Maybe something with red in it (front door) color.
