Anyone have Maekawa who could compare this to theirs?

I don't have that one. It's early, but your hosta look like they need fertilizer. Or, that's what I think when the veins are darker than the "in-between".

I just looked up Maekawa. The hosta should have 12 to 13 veins, it should be gray-blue and the leaves are 16X10. Another description says it's gray-green, and another says green. One says lavender blooms and another says white. This is all on myhostas.be. So, I went to the hostaregistrar.org.

Officially the leaf should be 7X9, textured, rippled and dull on the top side. It should be medium green, with a deep glaucus bloom on the underside. The mound should be 17" high and could be 50" wide. Hope this helps.

Vein count is 12. Will have to get a measuring tape to measure the leaves. It is rippled but not rugose. It’s dull on the top and medium green and glaucous underneath. Height and width is matching for the clump. Was hoping someone would have an actual photo of this plant so I can compare real life

I think I would call it a match? and see how the blooms match up. If they do, then that's the label I would give it.

SOLVED: Maekawa

Just a suspicion it may be Komodo Dragon. The interesting micro-striations between the veins that I believe I see in your pics, is a cool coloration phase I love on my KD this time of year. I also see much more pie-crusting on Maekawa in the HL pics. Your hosta's waviness seems more consistent with KD.

Komodo vein count is 15-17 and this is 12 across the board so I don't think it is KD. Also, the leaves aren't as thick as KD and aren't long and pointed...they are more rounded (hard to tell in the pic). I always wanted Komodo but never purchased one b/c I didn't have the real estate for it! lol

Still rambling. lol I do see what you mean about the pie-crusting. SIGH. I don't know. lol So frustrating trying to ID these!!!

Very nice! Your leaves are definitely more "rigid" than mine. I'm positive I have never purchased Komodo Dragon so that leaves me back to square one, I think.

Yeah, I'm probably wrong. Seeing how many divisions are in your 3rd pic, would make it old enough that it's leaves would be much larger if it was KD.

Bkay - I've re-combed my list today and still think it is Maekawa also. There is nothing else that looks similar and besides mega piecrusting, everything fits! I'll wait for flowers and update! :)

I don't know if it will help, but here's my Maekawa. It's been a very slow grower, and the leaves droop so much they drag on the ground and tend to get eaten. It's in a spinout bag that holds it about three inches higher than ground level and they're still almost touching the ground. Not sure why the photo looks so bleached out, hope it's just part of posting.

Yours has a super piecrust edge and mine does not. Makes me think mine is a Maekawa mis-ID. Wow....so hard to figure this out!!!!
