What is a "sizeable" container? Given mint's rampantly spreading nature, a single plant can easily fill a 10-12" wide container in just one growing season.

That is about the size 10-12" wide and 14-18" deep just did not want to overcrowd

First time trying to grow Mint is there a specific type I should grow for cooking purposes??

Just pick a flavor you like :-) Spearmint or peppermint are pretty universal choices.

Peppermint is a very strong and distinctive flavour, so, unless you want to make peppermint tea or sweets, grow spearmint for general purpose use such as in salads, Balkan, Middle Eastern or Indian dishes. Also mint sauce or jelly is the traditional accompaniment to roast lamb over here. And, of course, mojitos.

I have come to realize there are also other types of Mint like, Orange, Ginger,and Chocolate. Don't know how easy they would be to find but it sounds interesting

I just sampled one at the nursery yesterday that was new to me....Spanish mint. Very strong spearminty flavor but with a very peppery zip to it. I may go back and get some :-)

There are indeed lots of fancy flavours, and they're not too hard to find, but for most cooking purposes spearmint and its cultivars are the most useful.
