I've been thinking of growing my own seedlings from say the granny smith apples we buy at the grocery since my own trees already planted aren't producing yet. I've also gotten some branches to produce roots so might try that as well. Does anyone have experience with whether this would be as reliable a size as say M25 rootstock? It seems like a more sustainable plan to have some genetic variety in rootstock rather than everything a clone if some disease should move through the area.
