What are they using chisels and hammers? They forgot the right drill back at the shop and couldn't be bothered to drive back!

The holes done by my fabricator in my much harder quartzite are smaller and perfect. My GC also had to drill a hole through the quartzite counter, but inside a cabinet holding the built in coffee machine and the hole he made was also perfect.

Why was one hole drilled onsite, and one during fabrication? Was the soap dispenser a later addition? That affects my answer...

Thank you everyone for your responses. The request for a soap dispenser hole and the position were both decided in the show room. It was left off both the kitchen and laundry plan. I spoke to the shop (and emailed) when i reviewed the layout and reiterated we needed soap dispenser holes. They had not noted the request, and responded they would drill on-site. When they were here, they also forgot to write the need for soap dispenser holes (I stayed home from work to oversee and clarify the placement). When they asked me to sign off on the counter, I noted they did not have a site for the hole, they then worked with me to locate the site and drilled the hole in both the granite and the marble. I did not sign off on the install, I told them the contractor would do this if all was okay.

I'd make those chips around that hole nearly disappear with some tinted methacrylate. Not a big deal. Call 'em back and sit on their check.

Do you have any thoughts on this seam? Would you recommend the “sharpie method” to color match or leave as is? (Can’t resist asking the guru )

The hole for my soap dispenser was drilled onsite, and is clean as can be. I mean, they are counter fabricators, and do this all day long, all year long. It is an ordinary part of stone counter installation. While Joseph Corlett's solution sounds good, I have to wonder whether those patches will hold up over time.

This looks like someone forgot to bring the right drill bit, and rather than wait for the right one, or go back and get it, just fudged. Or, they had the right one, but it was well-used and not sharp, and the fabricator is not keeping his equipment in sharpened condition.

That clearly falls in their responsibility, then. I would ask them to repair it, and see how you feel about it after, and I might be asking about some sort of refund, too.

Repairs are (I believe) stronger than the stone, so the visual is the most important factor in it. You don't need to worry about how it will last.

Let them repair it. It should be virtually invisible if done well, and function just fine. If done poorly, then maybe they hire a more skilled repair person, or maybe they replace.
