Extra Special Wish Rose

Is there a rose, currently unavailable to you for some reason, that even if you had no more space, even if you had no money left in your budget, even if it was the wrong time of year, even if people around you told you that it was a bad idea, that you would still get it? I've been thinking a lot about this lately. While I admire everyone's stunning displays of HT's and Austins, they, along with many HPs, don't do well here at all. Floribundas and minis are only a little better. OTOH Lens and Pemberton hybrid musks do well here and it seems there are fewer offered every year. Polyanthas are dead easy for me. I could easily become a collector except that the same handful are offered all the time. It seems like the availability of many of older or less than mainstream roses is so fleeting that if they aren't grabbed immediately, there is no second chance.

Yes, I want 'Josephine Hooker'... only 3000 were released here and I didn't get one... and I don't know who has one either... I've been told to ask around but no avail so far..

I agree that some of the older, rarer varieties (or more recent roses that haven't made it in commerce) are hard to source. Many of the nurseries that carry them seem to be more in it for love than money. If you see something become available, snagging it at that moment might be the only way to get it, in some cases. This happened to me recently when I ordered Marianne, which was available on the RVR website for less than 24 hours before it was out of stock, apparently. I told myself I wouldn't order any more roses this year.... Ha!

For me it's Zalud House Shingled Rasberry which to me is extraordinarily beautiful, but it's also extraordinarily difficult to find. It seemed to be available once, and I ordered it, only to find that they no longer had it. It may have to just remain my dream rose, especially since my energy lately is non-existent. At this stage I'm very content to just enjoy what I do have.
