I water transplants right after putting them in the ground. But I would wait a few days before watering again. IMO, it's much better to let water slowly trickle at the base of plants so you get a deep watering. Wait until the top of the soil is dry before watering again.

I agree with the above.

I like to do a deep watering every few days (depending on the weather) and gradually lengthen the time to about 1-2 waterings a week.(depending on the plant, of course!)

We pretty much get no rain from April-October.

I water once right after transplanting but after that I only water if it's needed. I hate watering plants and avoid it if at all possible.

'Watering in' is an integral part of the transplant process. As well as giving the plant moisture it has a mechanical effect. It settles soil particles closely around the roots and eliminates air pockets. After that water as needed. The plant's behaviour will show if or when. Also water before transplanting so the plant is fully turgid and comes out of the outsider easily.
