we have an additional room in the basement they my husband would like to turn into a music room that will have a keyboard, guitars, his big apple computer and recording equipment, standing microphone, some storage for his music nick nacks, etc.

I’d like to also have a corner with dumbbells, and tv. As well as some storage for a few misc boxes.

So far it’s been a dump all room and I’m in the process of cleaning it up.

I need help in designing the room which is 3x6 meters. And ideas for silencing it. Ideally it’ll be a functional, cozy and esterically pleasing space where my husband, myself and our 2 small kids (4&6) can spend good time.

We have some shelving that ideally I’d reuse, a large cream rug, 2 cream ikea couches (maybe use 1 of them?), Chinese looking storage, and basic errex shelves (https://www.gemerrex.ch/epages/167819.mobile/?ObjectPath=/Shops/167819).

Need ideas!

3x6 meters is not a lot of space for what you want to do.

You may be asking too much of the room. Music tends to spread out, and you need a bit of space to use it.

Exercise equipment is less likely to be used if you have to wrangle it out of a corner, and then you have to have room to use it. Even small dumbbells. You might be better off keeping those under your bed in a roll-out box. (although, for me, out of sight is out of mind.) But if you really want them in the space, you might find a wall rack for them, and put it at the front of the space so you don't have to climb over the music stuff to get to it and use it.

Hmm, I'm not sure I'd want small children playing in a room with expensive electronic and music equipment and dumbbells in it. Unless they are being supervised on the equipment.

And with all that, two sofas might be too much. one, maybe.

All that said, I'd put the music equipment at the far end of the room, with a divider of the bookcases or something. Keep the kids out, and your DH will appreciate the privacy.

In the front half of the room, you really have room for only one sofa, and the tv will be small because you will be only 2 meters away from it.

We just turned an empty bedroom into a gym/office/music room. My husband plays guitar and records on the computer as well. We also have an extra pull out couch for either watching tv or for extra guests (we have a guest room but you never know). The key to getting all of this in one small area is ORGANIZATION. We took everything out of this room to paint, so once everything was in the garage I was able to plan out where everything would go. We also have a closet in this room, which is where hubby stores the guitars and guitar equipment. He has it set up (and plugged in) so he can just pull it out and play. I think he still has to set up a cable to the computer to record, but it’s pretty quick. Anyway, see the pics I have attached so you can see how we organized everything. The TV is also a computer monitor. Good luck...it’s quite an undertaking let me tell ya.

One idea: mirror the back wall to "extend" the room and help you check your form when exercising. The TV can be wall mounted. Research acoustic tiles. Don't know if placing those just on the ceiling would suffice for you. The sofa would be for the kids? You most probably won't have room for two of them. Make a room layout on grid paper and cut out your big furniture pieces to scale and play around on paper before getting married to too many ideas. As suggested above, dividing the space into zones is probably the way to go. (Your space looks great, Karen Rose.) Good luck and keep us posted. Sounds like an ideal way to use a basement room. :)

I think a floor plan to show us where windows and door are would be helpful this I agree is not a big space and you are asking for a lot from it . I am also curious where all the stuff you have there is going to go.You will certainly not have space for that. What size is your room Karen Rose?

It’s weirdly angled, so 12x10 in the largest area and 12x8 where the wall juts out.

We just grew to become an empty bedroom right into a health club/office/track room. My husband plays guitar and information at the computer as nicely. We additionally have a further pull out sofa for both watching television or for extra visitors
