Beautiful backsplash! Hard to tell much without seeing it with the counters, but I would think it would be a nice transition from the black to the white. I would wait on the lights too, you may change your mind when you see it all done!

Yes the recessed lightbulbs are very mellow yellow - the electrician just grabbed I think. I’ll post a pic from daytime. I’ll get brighter light bulbs and post a pic once we move in next week and hopefully with the bamboo shades.

I like the backsplash because it has some texture but the solid color will work with most any stone. It will look stellar with the black. Wait til you have lived with it a while before changing anything. The lights may look fine once you add the usual kitchen furnishing. It is easy to change pendants or just the shades as your add decor.

I love it!! Do not change the backsplash! If anything, I think I would change the pendants to black. I think it would look amazing with your black countertops and handles on your cabinets. Wait until everything is exposed and cleaned up. I think the general concensus is that your backsplash is a hit! I redid my kitchen last year and I second guessed myself right up until it was done. But I'm glad I stuck with it because I love the outcome. Can't wait for you to post the finished look!!!

Deep breaths, keep working your plan. Looks to me that it will all look fab. (especially with your matte black counters) This stage,'the almost there',is always nerve wracking. Cookies or wine might help. So will cookies and wine.

I can't see the backsplash really clearly. But I think what is done is not grouted yet? Once they are, if you use a colour that blends well, it will give a cleaner look too. Grout makes a huge difference in the look. I like everything you have done that is showing.

No changes until WAAAAY after things are finished and you’re in a while. Because with all that’s involved with a reno and ALL those decisions, you’ve understandably lost perspective is all. Beautiful kitchen.

Personally I like it very much. I can see why you might think it seems dirty, but it strikes me as an interesting, soft transition between counters and cabinets. Wait — I think you’ll be happy with the final result.

When you add your wood blinds and stools in you will see it all come together. A beautiful kitchen.

I love everything in your kitchen! I think your backsplash will look amazing with bamboo shades. There's something rustic about them that goes just right with the whole space. They don't look dirty at all.

Love it. You don't want to match your cabinets exactly, do you? It's a softer, more time-worn look, which what I would want in my own space. I'm partial to that look.

Love the backsplash! As to lighting, as others have said, wait. If you still have doubts, try
clear globes and Edison bulbs.

PS. Be sure to try matching outlet covers to tile, color wise.

Wait until it's all finished. I think you're just having reno anxiety which we all seem to have when it's not quite finished and all the pieces aren't in yet. That's when we start questioning ourselves.

I think you did an excellent job choosing and the tile with the hint of grey on the edges gives it some interest and texture and will help tie the counters to the cabinets. Your light fixtures look fine too.

Great backsplash and beautiful kitchen! If I were going to change anything, it’d be the crown molding situation; it’s weird how it’s done on the range hood wall and the style of it is a bit formal/fussy for those particular cabinets and window trim. If you could copy the placement in Diana’s kitchen, and find a simpler style, I think it would look absolutely perfect.

Here is the final product. I still don’t love the pendants but it’s a nice kitchen.

I LOVE your kitchen!! We are in the process of planning a new build, and our kitchen will have a similar layout (two external walls with a need for lots of natural light/windows). Hope you don't mid if I ask a few questions that will help ease some issues with our plan? What side of the house does the wall with the stove face - front, side, back? Ours would be the front of the house and I'm worried about the look of the smaller windows looking unwelcoming when coming into the driveway/outside. Where does your vent for stove exit house - roof/siding/other? I'm don't know what our options are for that, but we have a wrap around porch to work with too. Thanks for your input! Love the pics!

It faces the side of the house and overlooks my long concrete driveway. As people come down the road they *could* see a vent? Maybe? We planted hornbeams along the the far side of driveway on the fence line. The vent is in the siding. To the left of the range is a mudroom and a side door with stairs. That may detract from the vent? I’ll take a picture from the outside in the morning for you to see.

It never occurred to me to consider the venting location etc...but it’s also the side of the house vs the front. I really wanted to see the kids playing in drive way. My sink over looks back yard, detached garage and patio. Again, so I could see the kids.

Here’s the exterior. I put an arrow in red where the range vent is.

Backsplash looks really good with the dark counters. Brings the cabinets and counters together. The light fixtures are really interesting. Stop second guessing yourself and enjoy it. You did a good job

I'm kinda ambivalent about the pendants. They just blend in. I suggest you live with them for several months. If you're still unhappy, yeah paint or change them.

I like-but-don't-love the backsplash. It looks kinda like painted brick, which I like ... it does not look like subway tile, which I do not like in the kitchen. Other thoughts on the backsplash:

- Are you maybe reacting to the fact that the backsplash looks a little rustic? I don't see other rustic items in your kitchen.

- You don't have a whole lot of backsplash, and I think it was wise to keep it neutral ... it's a supporting actor, not a star. If it were something "stronger", it would compete with all those windows ... and I'd rather focus on those windows. The shades were a great choice.

- No, it does not look dirty to me.

I agree the high gloss distressed tile does not go with the clean white simple frame cabinets and modern stainless appliances. I would push for a tile without a distressed look and has more of a flat or satin finish to it. The cabs are more satin aren't they? You could do a subtle pattern, I like some of the ones that cletile.com has, or a simple subway tile like you have with a light grey grout. We have also done a lot of caesarstone backsplashes for a seamless, clean look, but that would be a tough install job with what you have.

It turned out beautiful! I’m some what indifferent to the pendants, but I consider that a positive. They don’t wow me, but they don’t draw negative attention. They’re very livable and you have plenty of time to find the pendants that scream “I’m the one!” I also think white shades on the chandelier will make a big difference. My pendants were the one unlivable with mistake I made in my own kitchen. I found pendants that shared some of the elements of the ones I really wanted and thought I could save some money. Well, they didn’t share the important elements, were all wrong, and after a week I tearfully confessed how much I hated those lights. They went to Habitat, my original choice was purchased, and any effort to save money sure was thwarted.

Is there a reason why your window coverings also cover the window frames? Looking back up at Diana's kitchen, her windows serve as a nice frame around the shades. It looks a bit odd to cover the entire millwork on the top and sides of your windows.
The kitchen itself is peaceful feeling, and I like the contrast provided by the backsplash, but if you plan to replace the shades anyway, I would resize them to fit INside the window molding. Just a thought?

Your house is beautiful! Thank you for the visual on the exterior venting. We are building a rustic farmhouse with a wrap around porch, so I'm struggling with stove position/venting. (I'm OCD so I worry about the little things most don't give a second thought about.) Enjoy your home, watching the kiddos grow and making memories!

Yes the comment about the window treatments outside of the frames is on point. My designer made that decision. It threw me off. It is nice to break up the whiteness of the kitchen but I would have preferred them inside the frame...

White shades for the table light is a good move. Maybe once those are white the pendants will have a different feel. It is a beautiful space.
